To a. whom it may concern/r Be it known that I, PETER J. MYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton,

Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Creasers; and I do doclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a hand-operative device for creasing the Vamps of shoes for window display or for general use; and it consists of the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

Preceding a detailed description of the invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, of which-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stationary part of the device in position. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the last or creasing-form. Fig. 3 is a lower plan view of the last or creasing-form. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the dotted line a a of Fig.3. Figs. 5 and 6 are separate views of the creaser.

The device now to be described is intended principally for shoe-dealers-that is to say,

retail detailswho are required to crease shoes for the general trade and for window display and the object of the creases being to enhance the appearance of the shoe.

The object of the invention is to provide a creasing device of a utility which adapts it for general use to crease shoes for Window display and for other uses.

In a detailed description, l'designates an arm detachably secured to a slotted plate 2 byadovetail connection in a well-known manner, the two parts 1 and 2 constitutingv a bracket, which is designed to be secured to a The outer extremity 3 of the arm 1 terminates in a dovetail tenon, which is adapted to enter a corresponding dovetail recess at in the under side of the last or form 5 and be secured therein by means of a thumb-screw 6. The form 5 is given the necessary shape to readily enter the shoe, and the upper surface thereof is provided with a series of corrugations or creases 7,.which are embossed in the vamp of the shoe. As before stated, the form 5 is secured to the arm 1 by means of a thumb-screw. This enables one form to be displaced for another of larger or smaller dimensions whenever required. The creaser, which is operated by hand in connection with the form 5, is illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 and consists of three or more parallel curved bars 8, with intervening spaces 9 for the reception of the crimps or corrugations 7 on the shoe-form 5. The said bars terminate in handles 10 and havea curvature substantially as shown in Fig. 6, which conforms a cross-section of the last or form. v

The device is operated as follows: For window display it is preferable to heat the form 5; but in other cases the creasing may be done without heat. The desired size of last or form being placed in suitable position on the bracket-arm, the shoe is placed in position thereon with the vamp directly over the corrugations. The creaser is then placed on top of the vamp, and suitable pressure is applied to said creaser by the hands or otherwise to press the leather down into the crevices or grooves of the form. This being done, the creaser is given the necessary movement by means of the handles to press one side of the vamp and then the other, and the shoe moves with the creaser in such movements of the latter, it requiring but a few such movements of the creaser to form the necessary creases in the vamp. It Will be understood that the shoe and the creaser move together over the corrugated surface of form 5.
