Description
PATENTED NOV. '24, 1903; J. GEISSLINGER.
SPARKING PLUG FOR EXPLOSION MOTORS.
APPLIUATION FILED JULY 8, 1903.
N0 MODEL.
Zfiinesses Patented November 24, 1903 JOI'IANN GEISSLINGER, OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
SPARKING PLUG FOR EXPLOSION IVIOTORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters ZEatent No. 745,102, dated November 24, 1903.
Application filed July 8,1903. Serial No. 164,784. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANN GEISsLINGER, electrical engineer, whose post-ofiice address is No. 14 Amselstrasse, Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a New or Improved Sparking Plug for Explosio1rh/Iotors;. and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a new or improved sparking plug for explosion-motors which has the advantage of great reliability.
In the sparking plugs hitherto known the central wire and binding screws were fixed to the insulating mass by means of cement or the like and were consequently liable to be loosened by the vibration of the motor. In my improved plug the insulating mass is connected to the base of the plug by means of screw-threads, the connection thus being easily detachable but perfectly safe.
The so-called spark-gap,which has hitherto been arranged outside the plug, is placed within the present plug so that perfect ignition is not prevented in case of too liberal lubrication of the motor or deposits of soot on the plug. The reliability of the motor is thus considerably increased.
One form of the invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing, which is a longitudinal section of the plug.
As shown in the drawing, the lower part of the porcelain block a is externally screwthreaded and screwed intothe base d. The upper part of the said block a is provided with arecess b, the wall of which is also screwthreaded. Into this recess is screwed a block 0 with a convex upper surface, and above the latter a screw or plug h with a conical end is screwed into the said recess in such a manner that a short gap is formed between the convex and conical surfaces. The plug 71 carries the binding-screw g.
Screwed into the block 0 is the wire f, which extends through the foot of the plug. The wire is thus securely connected to the plug, but is easily detachable.
Asbestos washers Z are placed between the joints to prevent the escape of gas.
WVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A new or improved sparking plug for explosion-motors, consisting of a base portion carrying a sparking terminal, an externallyscrew-threaded insulating-body screwed in said base, and provided with a recess with screw-threaded walls, a block having a ter minal wire screwed thereinto, threaded into the bottom of said recess, and a screwthreaded block closing the recess carrying the binding-screw and separated from said block by a spark-gap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OHANN GEISSLINGER.
