Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY WEA- SER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsfield, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide new and improvedeyeglasses arranged to insure a firm connection between the bowspring, the nose-guards, and the studs; to prevent loosening of the bow-spring or noseguards, and to allow of adjusting the lenses up or down relative to the nose-guards.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 isa rear elevation of the improvement, parts being in section. Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the stud on a lens. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the bowspring, and Fig. dis a perspective view of the nose-guard arm.

On the lenses A A are secured in the usual manner studs B B, connected with each other at their heads B by a bow-spring O, the studs also supporting a nose-guard D, as hereinafter more fully described.

Each head B of a stud B is formed with a top recess B and a similar recess B at the bottom, the recesses extending transversely, as plainly shown in Fig. 3. One of the recesses (as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the top recess 13*) receives the correspondingly-shaped terminal D of the arm D of the nose -guard D, while the other or bottom recess B is engaged by the correspondingly-shaped bottom member 0 of a U-shaped clip 0, extending transversely on the corresponding end of the how-spring O. The top member 0 of the clip 0 fits the outer face of the terminal D, and a screwE serves to fasten the several parts together at each head Bthat is, the

screw extends vertically, preferably from the top downward, and passes through themenibers C O of the clip G, the terminal D, and the head B at the recesses B B As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the head of the screw E abuts against the top member 0 of the clip 0 and the threaded end of the screw screws in the threaded bottom member 0 of the clip; but it is evident that this may be reversed and the screw placed in position from the bottom upward to screw in the member 0 and, if desired, other fastening devices may be employed.

It is understood that by the arrangement described, the bow-spring O has the clips 0 integral at its ends and extending in a transverse direction, and the. middle portion of each clip abuts against the outer face of the head B to insure a very firm connection between the head and the clip. If desired, one of the recesses may be made sufficiently deep to receive'both the terminal D and the corresponding clip member 0 or 0 In order to raise the lenses AArelative to the nose-guards D, the terminals D are engaged with the bottom recesses B of the heads B, and the top members 0 of the clips 0 then fit the top recesses B while the bottom clip members 0 fit against the outer faces of the terminals D. In all cases, however, the clips 0' of the bow-spring engage the heads B in a transverse direction, and

the terminals D of the nose-guards likewise extend in a transverse direction; but the terminals may engage with either the top recess B or the bottom recess B according to the position the lenses A are to occupy relative to the nose-guards D.

It is expressly understood that the screws E fasten the several parts to the heads B in a direction transverse to the axis of the studs B, as will be readily understood from the above description and as shown in the drawlngs.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In eyeglasses, the combination with the lenses and the studs thereon, of a bow-spring having top and bottom connections with the heads of said studs, and nose-guards clamped ICO by the ends of said spring upon said studs,

as setforth.

2. In eyeglasses, the combination with the lenses and studs thereon, of a bow-spring, top and bottom connections between the ends of the bow spring and the studs, nose guards clamped upon the heads of the studs by the ends of the bow-spring, and fastening devices for connecting the ends of the springs and bow-pieces togetherin a direction transverse to the axes of the studs, as set forth.

3. Eyeglasses having studs, nose-guards, a bow-spring provided at its ends with transversely-extending clips, and fastening-screws disposed vertically for fastening the noseguards and clips in position on the corresponding studs, as set forth.

4. Eyeglasses provided with studs having heads recessed on the top and bottom in a transverse direction ,nose-guards having arms provided with terminals fitting one of the recesses, a bow-spring having transverse clips at its ends, each clip having one member fitting the other recess and the other member fitting the outside of the said terminal, and fastening devices for fastening the clips and terminals to the said heads, as set forth.

5. Eyeglasses provided with studs having heads recessed on the top and bottom in a transverse direction, nose guards having arms provided with terminals fitting one of the recesses, a bow-spring having transverse clips at its ends, each clip having one member fitting the other recess and the other member fitting the outside of the said terminal, and fastening devices for fastening the clips and terminals to the said heads, the said fastening devicesconsisting of screws extending vertically through the said terminals, the heads and the members of the clips, as set forth.

6. Eyeglasses provided with a bow-spring having horizontally-disposed U-shaped bends at its ends, and vertically-disposed U-shaped clips at the inner terminations of said bends.

7. Eyeglasses provided with a bow-spring having at its ends clips, each clip comprising a central section and spaced parallel sections extending rearwardly therefrom.

8. Eyeglasses provided with lenses, and studs, each stud having a head provided with recesses on its top and bottom faces.

9. Eyeglasses provided with lenses, and studs, each stud having a. head recessed at the top and bottom and apertured in a vertical direction through the recessed portions, as set forth.
