STATES GEORGE XV. HASSELLUND, OF NE\V CASTLE, NEXV YORK.
SPRING AND NOSE-PIECE FOR EYEGLASSES.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 346,654, dated August 3, 1886.
Serial No. 195,436. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WILLHELM HASSELLUND, of New Castle, in the county of W'estchester and State of New York, have invented a new useful Improvement in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed-drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a pair of eyeglasses embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line 00 :c in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 3 y in Fig; 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a removable sprin and nose-piece for eyeglasses, also to furnish a comfortable and effective covering for the nose-piece;
My invention consists in an eyeglassframe provided with a clamp for holding a roundwire spring and round-wire nose-pieces, and in the combination therewith ofa spring formed of round spring-wire and of round-wire nosepieces inclosed in a cylindrical covering of cork.
To the lens-frame A are secured clamps a, which are slit parallel with the plane of the frames and provided with two semicircular grooves, Z) Z), which are approximately parallel with the edge of the frames, and between the grooves there is a screw, 0, passing through one side of the clamp a into a threaded hole formed in the other side. A curved spring, B, of round wire is received by its ends in the grooves b of the clamps a, and one end of each wire nose piece d is received in the groove 7) of one of the clamps a, and the spring and nose-pieces are secured in the clamps by drawing the two sides of the clamp together upon them by the screw 0. The opposite ends forming the nose-piece is covered by a centrally-ap'ertured cylindrical piece, f, of cork or analogous material.
My improvement permits of removing and renewing the spring B, the nose-pieces d, and their covering whenever desirable, and the process of manufacturing the springB is more simple and inexpensive than that of the usual flat sprin Although I have described a spring and nose-pieces as being made of round wire, I do not limit or confine myself to this particular form of wire.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to seou re by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The combination,with the iens-frames A, of the clamps a, secured to the lens-frame and split and adapted to receive the spring 13 and nose-pieces (Z and the clamping-screws 0, sub stantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination,with thelens-frames A, provided with clamps a and arms 0, arranged to receive and hold a round-wire spring, and nose-piece, of the round-wire spring B, the round-wire nose-piece d, and the cylindrical covering f, inclosing the round-wire nosepiece d, substantially as shown and described.
3. As an improved article of manufacture,
an eyeglass-frame formed of the lens-frames A,
provided with the screw-clamps a and arms 6, the round'wire nose-spring B, the round- ,wire nose-pieces (I, and the cylindrical coveringf, inclosing the round-wireuose-piece, substantially as shown and described.
