Any suitable method of construction may be employed in producing devices of this character,the shank portion 1 being preferably formed and soldered or otherwise secured to the clip portion 2 3 and the box 5, which may be formed in any suitable manner. It will be observed that the form illustrated in Fig. 3 may be readily produced from a common or well-known form of stud having the Vertically-disposedchannel by forming apertures in the flanges thereof, preferably of such dimensions as to admit the attaching portions of both the spring and guards, thereby enabling such a device to be employed with springs and gu ards having their attaching portions extending in the sameor opposite directions or at right angles relatively to each other.
By forming the stud with the roof portion 10 to receive the pressure of the screw it will be observed that a relatively stationary bearing-surface is provided to transmit the pressure of said screw to both attaching portions, and as said screw-head bears upon a stationary portion of the stud all possibility of its loosening through motion of said attaching portions is eliminated. Moreover, as the posts or abutments between said bearing portions engage the lateral edges of said attaching portions of the spring and guard relative motion or displacement thereof is effectually resisted.
I claim as my invention 1. In eyeglasses, a device of the character described, comprising a body portion adapted to be attached to the lenses, and seats angularly arranged therein to receive the attaching portions of the spring and guards, projections being-formed adjacent said seats and constituting abutments for the lateral edges of said attaching portions, and portions rigidly connecting the outer ends of said projections or abutments, and a fastening-screw for clamping said spring and guard ends in said seats.
2. In eyeglasses, a stud comprising a body portion provided with lens-attaching devices, and a box carried thereby having seats formed therein to receive the attaching portions of the spring and guards at angles relatively to each other, projections being formed adjacent said seats to engage the lateral edges of said attaching portions, and connecting portions between said projections adapted to engage the fiat surface of said attaching portions, and a fastening-screw passing through said box and attaching portions and adapted to clamp the latter Within said box.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a body portion having lens-attaching i-neans formed thereon, and a portion aperformed between said apertures to engage the edges of said attaching ends, and portions connecting the ends of said projections, and a fastening-screw for clamping said spring and guard ends in position.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a body portion carrying lens-attaching devices, and a portion having seats formed therein and arranged to receive the attaching portions of the spring and guards in angular relation to each other, and projections formed by the intersection of said seats and constituting abutments for the edges of said attaching portions, a roof portion connecting the ends of said projections, and a fasteningscrew entering said roof and attaching portions for securing the latter within said box.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a body portion carrying lens-attaching devices, and a box formed thereon having seats formed therein and adapted to receive the spring and guard attaching portions at right angles to the plane of the lenses, projections constituting abutments for the edges of said attaching portions, and connected at their ends by a roof portion, and a fastening device for securing said attaching portions.

A device of the character described, comprising a body portion carrying lens-attaching devices, and a closed box having seats formed therein to receive the attaching ends of the spring and guards in angular relation, projections formed between said seats and constituting abutments for the lateral. edges of said attaching portions, a roof portion connecting the ends of said projections and adapted to bear against the flat surfaces of the attaching portions, and a fastening-screw passing through said box and attaching portions, and having a portion adapted to bear upon said roof and clamp said attaching portions within said box.
7. A lens-post for eyeglasses having lens-attaching devices, and a box having angularlyarranged seats for receivingthe attaching portions of the spring and guard and provided with spacing posts or abutments, adjacent the seats, and aportion connecting the ends of said posts or abutments.
8. A lens-post for eyeglasses provided with lens-attaching devices, and a box apertured to form seats to receive the attaching portions of the spring and guard, the seats being so arranged as to provide posts or abutments at the corners of the box, and a roof portion connecting the ends of said posts or abutments to reinforce them.
9.
