Be it known that LWILLIAM F. Bossnar, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in' Electric Switcl1boards,of which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates to improvements in a panel or switchboard adapted for use in connection with fuse-wires and fuse 1o plugs.
The especial feature of the invention consists of improvements in the construction of the connecting parts of the branch-circuit cross-connecting bars, whereby the common screw-threaded fuse-'plug can be employed to close thecircuit and form a perfect electrical contact and avoid introducingr resistance at that point.
In the drawings which illustrate the inven-l suitable insulating material, and B B2 are the' 3o common circuitterminals adapted for the reception of leads and are secured to the panel by screws l l and the binding-screws 2 2.
C and C2are' common circuit-terminal conductors having feet t, which are secured to the panel by the screws 8 3, which also serve as binding-screws to connect the fuse-wires s s with the binding-screws 2 2, and E, E2, E3, and EL1 are conductors or terminal branchcircuit cross connections, which are secured 4o to the terminals C C2 in a common and usual manner by the screws 4 and 5. The terminals E extend to each side or edge of the panel and at their extremities are adapted to be connected to the branch leads, as will now be explained.
Dis an archshaped member, shown as provided with the feet a and o' and the arch central portion h, ring-shaped in plan, having an internally-screw-threaded nut c. The foot a 5o is secured to the panel by the bolt z, and the foot r is similarly fastened to the panel by a -bolt y, which passes through the foot and the terminal E, separated from the foot r by the insulation tu, there being around the bolt a ring of insulation u, separating it from the said terminal.
In the modification shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the foot r is broadened on its sides, as represented by m, and is provided with ears n n on each side, which are secured to the panel 6o by the screw-bolts o o. The portion m forms an arch over the extension E and leaves an air-space p all around the same, which space is preferably filled with insulation.
Fis the fuse-plug, made with a hollow plug of insulation, usually porcelain, and having upon its lower exterior portion a threaded sleeve-contact h. Its upper portion is of larger diameter and has a metal cap f secured to it. A fuse-wire is soldered to the in- 7o ner surface of the metal piece 7L at the point 10 and curves inward and downward through the bottom of the plug to acentral end contact upon its exterior in a common manner. The screw-thread h of the plug is screwed into the nut c of the member D, with which it makes electrical contact, until the said end Acontact bears upon the end of the terminal E, with which it makes electrical contact, and a circuit is established from the branch lead 8o binding-screw o to the terminal E. The fuseplug receiver D being supported on its sides by a plurality of feet more than two can be provided, if necessary, central of which is the screw-socket c. It constitutes a sti and rigid arch which resists the screw -thrust of the plug, and consequently the latter may be screwed hard down onto the end of the terminal E and a perfect electrical contact made.
I claim as my inventionl. Thecombination withafuse-plughaving a threaded sleeve-contact and a central end contact, of a panel or switchboard provided with circuit-terminals, an arch-shaped niember connected with said sleevecontact and 95 insulated from the circuit-terminals, ringshaped in plan and internally screw-threaded and having a plurality ot' feet, one of which is connected to the branch lead, the said end contact being connected to a circuit-terminal, foo as set forth.
2. The combination in a panel or switchboard, a base of insulating material, common circuit-terminal conductors, and terminal branch-circuit cross connections, the latter provided With plug-fuses with a support for each plug consisting of an arch-shaped member insulated from and inclosing its crossconnection terminal, ring-shaped in plan and internally screw-threaded and having a plu rality of feet, one of which is connected to the branch lead, as set forth.
3. The combination with a fuse-plug having a threaded sleeve-contact and a central end contact, of a panel or switchboard provided with circuit-terminals, an archshaped member connected with said sleeve-contact and insulated from and inclosing the circuitterminal ring-shaped in plan and internally screw-threaded, and having a plurality of feet, one of Which is connected to the branch lead, the said end contact being connected to a circuit-terminal, as set forth.
4. The combination with a fuse-plug having a threaded sleeve-contact and a central end contact, of a panel or switchboard provided with circuit-terminals, an arch-shaped member connected with said sieeve-contact and insulated from and inclosing the circuitterminal, ring-shaped in plan, and internally screw-threaded,.and having feet upon opposite sides in line With the circuit-terminal, one of which is connected to the branch lead, the said end contact being connected to a circuit-terminal, as set forth.
5. The combination in a panel or switchboard, a base of insulating material, common circuit terminal conductors, and terminal branch-circuit cross connections, the latter provided With plug-fuses With a support for each plug consisting of an arch-shaped member insulated from its cross connection, ringshaped in plan and internal-ly screw-threaded, and having a plurality of feet, one of which is connected to the branch lead, as set forth.
