Be it known that I, IUzANT R. YUZUK, residing at New York, county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Plugs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to detachable plugs for electric circuits, and has forits object to provide a two-part plus, one part of which may be left permanent y in the socket of a fixture connected to the circuit, and the other )art of which can be readily connected to an disconnected from the first art, said plug being provided with fuse lil which will molt and break the circuit in case of an over-load or short circuit. Heretofore twopart detachable plugs b which I mean plugs whose base and termina bearing parts can be separated and connected without the aid of any tool or instrument, have not been provided with fuse links and the result has been that Where such plugs have been used in connection with wal fixtures or chandeliers, the only point in which protection against overload or short circuit could be provided for was within the ixture or chandelier, usually In such instances, when an overload or short circuit occurred,-the fixture or chandelier fuse would be blown and the xture or chandelier as a whole put out el commission, and various other dangers and troubles would occur. In order to avoid this difiiculty, I have provided a safety fuse within the plug itself, this fuse being so proportioned as to blow out at the ropertime, and protect the chandelier fuse, thus removing all the difficulties above referred to.

The terminal member C is provided with two flat terminals CC for engagement withtheclips K-K. le binding screws` manner and the terminals C.C are readily forced into or moved frein the clips K-K by a direct movement, thus obviating all twisting of the conductors C. When the device is in use, as, for instance, on a motor or other apparatus which has a varying load and the circuit becomes over-loaded, the fuse wires L-L blow when the over-load point is reached, and before the fuse in the chandelier blows, thereby preventing trouble and injury which would otherwise occur `when the chandelier fuse is alone relied on.
In the modification shown in Figs. 8 to 14, the same result is accomplished. In this case, 1 is the base portion, 2 is the cover portion, and 3 is the terminal-bearin portion. To the base ortion terminal mem ers 4-4 are secured y screws passing throu h the bottom of the base portion. One o these terminal portions is connected b its securing screw to a lug 5, which is so dered to a metallic screw-threaded terminal 6, in the upper end of which is secured .a piece of porcelain or non-conducting material 7, on the bottom of which a terniinallate 8 is secured by a screw 9 passin throng the saine, and into a late 10, whic is electrically connected to t e other terminal-plate 4 by its securing screw. Within the base portion are also terminal-plates 1 1, which are secured thereto by screws passing through the bottom of the base. These plates 11 are provided with spring-clips 12, which are adapted to engage terminals upon the terminal-bearing portion 3. The plates 4 and 11 are all provided with ordinary binding screws, and each plate 4 is connected to its neighboring plate 11 by a fuse wire 13. The inner portion 19 of this projec- 46 tion extends downward into the base until it approaches the bottom of the base, when the cap or cover 1 is in position, thus forming a partition separating the two poles of the circuit, and preventing any arcing directly 50 between the two poles when the fuse blows.

In a detachable plug, the combination of a base portion adapted to be inserted in a socket, a terminal-bearing portion readily detachable therefrom, links of fusible metal interposed in the circuit and adapted to be carried by said base portion, and a'cover secured to said base portion so as to be between said base portion and said terminalcarrying portion, said cover having openin s for the terminals carried by said termina bearing portion.
2. In a detachable plug, the combination of an insulatingbase portion, contacts mounted on the front side thereof, means located on the back side of said base portion for securing it to a socket and electrically connecting said contacts to the circuit, a terminal bearing portion readily detachable from said base portion and said contacts, a fuse link interposed in the circuit and carried by said base portion on its front side, and a coversecured to said base portion and situated between the iront side of said base portion and said terminal bearing portion, said cover having openings for the terminals of said termina bearin portion.
3. In a detachab e plug, the combination of a base portion having terminals and adapted to be secured to a lamp socket, a terminalbearin portion readil detachable therefrom, links o fusible metalr interposed in the circuit and carried by said base portion, a cover secured to said base ortion so as to be between said base portion and said terminalcarrying portion, said cover having openin s for the terminals carried by said termin bearing portion, and an insulating partition separatin the oles of the circuit within the base ortion jacent to said links.
