The norkscrewl is constructed in the general formof similar corkscrews now in use, and is made of like materials, all the modified forms of the same, above described, being lcomposed of a shank, a, provided with a screw-thread, the lower endof the shanka terminating ina corkscrew, e, said shank a moving up and down loosely through a hole in the upper part of the barrel or bell b. The handle e is either rigidly secured to the shank' a,"or 4is provided with'a thumb-nut, d', Figure 1, fitting loosely on the screw-thread on said shank a, or fastening-devices'in Figures 6 and 8.

withdrawn ,from the bottle-allot' said devices being only different methods of securing the handle e to the shank` a, or to prevent saidbandle e'from turning onsaid shankv a while the corkscrew c is being forced into the cork,

and also so that the same may be instantly loosened when the cork'is to be drawn.-

The operation is similar to that of like'corkscrews now in use. Constructed as above described, they constitutenent,convenient, and reliable corkscrews, the advantages ofwhioh are, that. the'handles of the same may be quickly and securely fastened, to the shank, or as quickly loosened from the same, and that they will t the necks of 'any sided bottles, and adhere more firmly thereto.

Having thus described the nature of my said invention, and the manner in which I propose to carryout the sume, I wish it to be understood thatfI do not ,limit myself to the precise details of the various parts, as shown and described, bntthat which I claim, is l 1.
