TO ALLl WHOM IT MAY CNCERN:
Be it known that I, C. W. MARTIN, oi' Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useiul Improvement in Buckles, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to,'t`orn1s `a full and exact specification ofth'e same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principlesot my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desreto have secured to mcby Letters Patent.
The present invention relates to a buckle intended more particularly for use upon traces to harnesses of horses', the nature of the invention consisting in lproviding a means by which the chaiing of the sides of the animal is prevented, and the possibility of the tongue to the buckle pulling and splitting out the trace, from the strain thereon bythe animal, is obviated. buckles is illustrated` Figure I being'u plan or top View of one side or face of the buckle, and
Figure la section taken in the plane of the line a' x, which is in the direction of the length of the buckle.
A, in the drawings, represents my improved buckle made in two parts, B and C, each of a frame-shape,
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in and hinged or hung together at D. The part B to the buckle is inade of parallel side bars, E, joined togetherat each end with a cross-bar, F, one of which has a loop, G, and by a plate, H, 11i-.ide ot' a convex shape, upon its upper side, I, and ofA a concave shape upon its underside. The other part C to the buckle consists oi` two parallel side bars, J, joined together zitone end by a cross-bar, K, and at a short distance therefrom by another cross-bar, I., that is provided with a tongue, M, fitting into a notch, N, made in one of the end-bars to the part B, and at a proper point thereof.
With a. buckle of the construction hereinabove described, the trace passes under the end-bar of the part B having the loop (ir-:and from thence over the convex side to the plate H and under the notched bar F, and
thence to the loops oi' the short trace-straps, the tongue passingthrough the trace-strap immediately in front of the notched bar F.
Having thus described f ny invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lett-ers Patent- I. The buckle, constructed as described, whereby the trace is pa'ssed under the end-bar F of the part B,
and over the convex' side of the plate H, under the notched bar F, over the tongue M,'and beneath the bar K, as and for the purpose specified.
2.."lhe buckle, constructed as described, consisting of the s-shaped frame B, having the loop G and concave-convex plate H, and provided with the lugs D, to which the curved frame C is pivoted, said frame having the cross-bars K L and tongue M, fitting into the notch N of the end-bar F of the partB, as herein shown and described.
