IMPROVED CONCRETE BUILDING-BLOCK PRESS.
TO ALLKWHOM' IT MAY CONCERN:
Be itiknown that I, ORLAN L. JORDAN, of' Dowagiac, in the county of Cass, andn the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Press for Pressing Concrete BuildingBlock and Brick; and do hereby declare that the following isa, full, clear, and exact description thereof. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A A represent an upright metallic frame, with a. press-box, B, secured fast in its upper end. C represents the cover to this press-box, which slides in grooves in the frame, as seen, `Figure 2. D represents o follower, which tits in the press-box, passing in from its under side. This follower operates upward, pressing the -cltey against the cover C. G represents a. bur, which is pivoted at one end between two ears on the bottom or base, A', of the frame, and nt the other end to a. lever, E. F represents a. bar, one end ot which is pivoted to the lever E,'the other end resting under the follower of the press-box. The lever E,k operatingv with and between the bars G and I", forms a togglejoint lever, from which greet power may be derived. Two arms, I I, connect et one end with the follower D, and nt their other with one end of a. lever, II. These arms, I I,serve, with lover II, to throw the follower up, and discharge the block or brick 'from the press-box.
In using this machine, the cover C being removed, the material of which the block is to be formed is placed in therpress-hox B. The cover is then replaced, and the operator, bearing down the outer end of lever E, raises the follower D suiiciently to compress the materiel in the box into a. solid mass. As soonas this has been done, the cover C is again removed, and the block is thrown up, so as to be easily removed by means of the orme I and lever H.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, :rnd desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of the frame A with `box B, bers G F, lever E, follower D, bars I I, and lever H, the 'whole being constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner substantially as and for the purposes set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 13th dey of August, 1867.
