TOMBSTONE.
- srnorrrcArrroN forming para of Letters Patent No. 734,770, dated July 28, 190s. Application filed October 4, 1902. Serial No. 125,877. (,No model.)
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID` STEWART, a citizen of the United" States, residing at Pitts` burg, in the county of fAlleghenyand Stateand ornamental and lone Vthat will be readilyj and expeditiously set up Aandone which will be easy and inexpensive to produce.
Figure l is a front elevation view, Fig. 2,
is avertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view vtaken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the locking-post; 1 Y
In the drawings, 1 designates the tombstone proper, which may be of glass, porcelain, or any other suitable material and may be appropriately decorated and inscribed. It is provided with a central aperture 2, extending partially through the stone, whichaperture 2 has grooves or ways 3 formed in its sides.- At
with recesses 4, adapted to receive projecting lugs 5 of a hollow metallic postf 6. The post 6 is hollow and is secured in the ground, preferably by packing the earth l aroundl it and partially filling it and tamping the dirt down. It is provided on its upper 4end with lugs 5, which are adapted to slide in the grooves 3 of the stone when the latteris slipped over the post. y
It will be readily seen that after the post 6 has been securedin the ground in the manner described the tombstone may be slipped over it and the lugs 5 will ride down the grooves 3 until the stone rests ontop of the post 6, when the stone may be givenJ quarter-turn and the lugs 5 will ride into the recesses 4l, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, and thus lock the stone on the post 6 against longitudinal movement.
I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction and operation herein set forth, as I may make various changes in the same within the scope of my claims and without departing from the spirit of my ingrooves, of a post fitting in the aperture, lugs y formed on the post and adapted to be receivedby the grooves, and the stone adapted to beturned to causethe .lugsA to ride inthe recesses and lock the stone on the post, substantially as described.
In witness 4whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
