PATENT OFFICE.
TRUMAN R. BARNES, OF SHELTON, CONNECTICUT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 734,656, dated July 28, 1903.
I Application filed April 25, 1903. Serial No. 154,230. (No model.)
for Incandescent Burners; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with theaccompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, iu-.
Figure 1, a side view of a combined cap and mantle -support constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a side view at right angles to that shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a
of the ends of the mantle-supporting wire detached; Fig. 4, a sectional'view on the line a b of Fig. 2, enlarged; Fig. 5, a side view of one end of a mantle-supporting wire.
This invention relates to an improvement 7 in caps or mantle-supports for incandescent burners, the object of the invention being a simple arrangement whereby the mantle-s11 pport may be conveniently and securely locked to the burner-cap; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described,
and particularly recited in the claim.
As herein shown, the cap A is of substantially usual form, but has arms B C turned outward on opposite sides, the metal forming the arms being cut from the sides of the cap. In each of. these arms slits are made to form fingers D, the free end of the fingers projecting toward the cap and being turned out of the plane of the arms.
The mantle-support consists of doubled wire formed in the center with a bend E to support a mantle, the extreme ends F of the wire being bent inward and flattened and formed with slots G, corresponding in width to the thickness of the metal forming the In a cap and mantle-support for incandescent burners, the combination with a cap having outwardly-extending arms, said arms formed with spring-fingers of a mantle-support wire the ends of which are flattened and slotted, adapting them to be set over said arms and engaged by said fingers, substantially as described.
In testimonywhereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
