PATENT OFFICE.
ELECTRICAL ROTARY PORTABLE MACHINE FOR CUTTING SUGAR-CANE, &c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 733,587, dated July 14, 1903.
Application filed April 18, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, STEPHEN JOHN HYLTON- v and the Like, of which the followingis a specification.
The objects of my invention are improvements in the methods by which sugar-cane, maize-stocks, carcasses of meat, and the like are out. It is simple in construction, is worked by electricity, and carried in the hand of the operator.
In order that my invention may be clearly rendered, reference may be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a section through the motor and handle, and Fig. 2 a section through the spindle.
Similar letters of reference are used to indicate like parts in both views.
In constructing a cutting-machine accord ing to my invention I employ a circular saw a, said saw being attached by screws to the metal motor-casing] 1) represents the revolving armature; c, the armature-coils; e, the field-magnet coils 5 f, the commutator; g, the central revolving spindle 72-,the gun-metal bearing in which said spindle 9 works; j, the motor-casing, and Z the handle by which the machine is carried and worked. A switch is provided in said handle by which Serial No. 153,255. (No model.)
the electricity may be turned off or on at the will of the operator.
The upper portion of saw a will be pro tected by a suitable guard or cover. The central spindle Q will be made hollow in order that oil may be carried therein for the purpose of lubrication.
The means of supplying motive power to the machine is by the use of insulated wires f, connected with a dynamo or other source of electric power.
The machine, being light, is carried in the hands and may be applied to cut sugar-cane at any suitable or desired angle.
The machine can be used to cut and top su-- gar-cane, cut maize-stalks, cut up carcasses of meat, and the like.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new,'and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An electrically-driven machine for cut ting sugar-cane, comprising a rotary casing, a saw carried thereby, armatures revolving with the casing and stationary field-magnets within the casing, substantially as described.
2. In an electrically-driven machine for cutting sugar-cane, a rotary casing, a saw carried thereby, armatures revolving with the casing, stationary field-magnets, and a handle carrying the casing, substantially as described.
' In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN JOHN IIYLTON'BRAVO.
