OFFICE.
GEORGE D. STRAYER, OF PHILLIPSBURG, NEW JERSEY.
MARKlNG-STAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 732,601, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed February 5, 1903. Serial No. 141,950. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. STRAYER, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Phillipsburg, in the county of Warren, State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Marking-Stamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a marking-stamp, havinga stamp-carryin g plate which is adapted to be connected with a head in a firm and reliable manner, and admits of the convenient application and removal of said plate, the construction of parts being hereinafter described, and the novel features pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a marking-stamp embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 represents a transverse section thereof. Fig. 4 represents anend view, the stamp-carrier having been removed. Fig. 5 represents an end view, the stamp-carrier and face-plate having been "removed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures. 1
Referring to the drawings, A designates a 'head, in which is the channel or kerf B and the recess or groove 0, the latter intersecting said kerf.
' D designates a plate which carries the stamping letters, figures, or othercharacter, the same having on the upper side an eye E, which is firmly secured to said plate D.
F designates a face-plate on the head A, the same having a slot G. therein extending in the direction of the kerf B.
H designates a key, pin, or screw, which is passed through the groove 0 and the opening in the eye E while bearing against the upper side of the face-plate F.
It will be seen that when the eye E is introduced into the slot G of the plate F it enters the kerf B, and its upper portion is above the base of the groove 0. The key, pin, or screw H is then" inserted through the groove 0 and the eye E, and as it rides against the upper side or back of the plate F it draws the stamp-plate firmly against the face-plate and retains the former tightly in position, it
being noticed that as the eyeE has its upper or inner end portion seated in the channel above the base of the groove 0 it is well sustained, and the stamp-plate D is held firmly and steadily on the head A, and so is prevented from turning or having irregular motion imparted to it. It will also be seen that by withdrawing the key,.pin, or screw H the plate D may be readily removed and substituted by another having a different character thereon.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited in each case to the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. In a marking-stamp, a head, the sam having a transverselyextending recess therein, a face-plate on said head over said recess and having a slot therein at a right angle to said recess, astamp-carrying plate having an attaching device thereon which is passed through said slot and enters said recess, said stamp-carrying plate resting upon said faceplate and a fastening-pin which is passed through said recess and device back of said face-plate.
2. In a marking-stamp, a head, having a channel and a recess, the latter intersecting said channel, a face-plate on said head over said recess, a stamp-carrying plate provided with an eye which passes through the latternamed plate and occupies both recess and channel and a fastening device'which enters said recess and engages said eye back of said face-plate upon which ittightens.
3. In a marking-stamp, a head, the same having a transversely-extending recess theresaid face-plate having a slot therein at a right angle to said recess, a stamp-carrying plate which rests upon said face-plate, an eye connected with said stamp-carrying plate, the same being passed through saidslotin'to said recess and a fastening-pin which isp'assed through said recess and eye and rides upon the back of said face-plate.
