SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 732,411, dated June so, 1903.
Application filed June 14, 1902.
T0 (ZZZ-1077107711 it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT THOMAS HUGHES, a subject of the King of England,
The object of the invention is to provide a nut-lock consisting of a series of washers having interlocking tongues. Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide a lock- With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts, as hereinafter more In describing the invention in detail refer ence will be had to the accompanying drawsponding parts in the several views, and in Figure l is a plan view and section of the and section of the second or middle washer.
threaded end of a bolt, showing the three Fig. 4c is a plan view of the third or lower washer with a lug. Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the third washer without a lug. Figs. 6 and 7 are modifled views of the upper and middle washer.
In the drawings, 1) indicates a threaded portion of a bolt, and a the nut, which is adapted An upper washer c, which can be of any form desired, but preferably of a circular form,-the diameter dependerture in its center corresponding to the size of the bolt to which it is to be applied. At each side and intermediate its peripheral edge and aperture I provide two rectangular slots cl d, which in length are made to correspond with the length of the sides of the nut.
The central washer e is preferably of the same shape and diameter as the upper washer Serial No. 111,656.. (No model.)
and is provided with a similar aperture in its center, but instead of providing slots midway between the peripheral edge and aperture, as was done in the first-named washer, I cut or punch three sides of a slot entirely through the washer,"but leave one side uncut. I then bend the cut portion at right angles to the surface of the washer, thus forming tongues f f on each side of the central aperture of the washer. These tongues are cut and bent so that they will extend through the rectangular slots in the washer c and have their contiguous sides seated against the side of the nut. Two spring-fingers g g are formed on the washer e by cutting three sides of a slot through the washer and bending the portion so cut downward.
A plate his provided with a lug on its outer peripheral surface and with a central aper ture and having an aperture of a smaller diameter a predetermined distance apart around its solid portion between the central aperture and outer edge.
The construction, operation, and advantages, it is thought, will be understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that various changes may be made in the proportions and details of construction without de parting from the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is I In anut-lock, a washer having a central openingand slots at the sides of the central opening, a second washer having flanges fitting in the slots of the first-named washer,
V andspring-tongues with tangs extending on the opposite side, a third washer having a series of concentrically-arranged apertures to receive the tangs of the spring-tongues and means on the third washer for preventing its rotation.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT THOMAS HUGHES.
