Y TO ALL WHOM IT-MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, MARION SHIELDS, of Macon, in the county of Noxubee, and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and improved Envelope;` and I do hereby declare that the4 following is a full, clear, and exact description thereoi`,wl1ich will-enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The presentinvention consists in so forming au envelope that after having once beenused it is susceptible of again being used by properly folding it therefor, as will be apparent from the following description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the envelope foldedup, and
Figure 2 a view of the paper spreadout in its several parts.
Similar letters ofreference indicate corresponding parts.
' A, in the drawings, represents my improved envelope, of which B is the centre portion, that constituting the address-side oi` face of the envelope when used in addition to the other portion or side C, the one when folded in the one way, and the other when folded in'the other way. Each part, B and C, is provided with e, similar flap or piece, E E2, bothof which have mucilage applied along their edge F, as shown by a tint oi' yellow inthe one case, and by a dotted line in the other. A'.lhe part C, in addition to the ap E, has a wing, G, turned over at each end, which wings are both provided with mucilage, as shown bythe yellow tint, and the part B has two aps'H,`one at-each end, and gummed, as shown in yellow in the drawings.
For the first time using the envelope: Fold the iiaps Hover upon` the part B,"- and then upon the ilap E,
when fold the whole over upon' the part C, whereby moisteningthe mucilage on the wings G, it can be secured and held, and the envelope is ready for receiving a letter, which being inserted therein, is there held by sealing the ,Hap E2.; In opening the envelope, folded as above described, out it along the edges when unfolding the other parts,l then fold them over'into such a position as to bring the flap E2 into position for beingl sealed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-
The envelope, constructed as described, consisting of the parts `B C, provided with the wings G G, and aps H H E E2, having their edges gu-mmcd, as shown and specified.
' The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 2d day of July, 1867.
' F. M. SHIELDS.
