Description

; UNITED STATES Patented 11mm, 1903.
I ATEN'T OFFICE.
FRANK FISHER, OF BROOKLYINLNEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 110,780,897, dated June 16,- 1903.
Applicstioniiled October 28,1902. Serial .No. 128,424. (No specimens.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK FISHER, a citi-. zen of the United States, and a resi 'ent of the city of New York, borough of Brookl n, in the county of Kings and State of New York, haveinvented a new and Improved Ink-Reducer andProcess of Making the Same, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a means for reducing ink, whereby the ink is placed in a condition facilitating its proper manipulation and application to the paper;
By means of my invention the ink is softened and caused to properly adhere to the paper, thus preventing the ink from peeling oil of the paper. The reducer also prevents the ink from being ofiset from the paper-- that is to say, it preventsthe application of excessive quantities of ink. Owing to this and to the fact that the ink treated with the reducer dries very rapidly, the fresh-printed" sheets, placed one upon the-other, will not adhere nor-'will a lower sheet-transmit its.
impression to the back of an upper sheet; To this end the invention consists in a re:
. ducer composed of certain ingredients, to be hereinafter specified, and also in a novel processof combining these ingredients to produce" the proper result.
Theingredients of myimpr'oved ink -reducer consist, in varnish, one and one-third quarts; balsam of copaiba, one and one-third quarts Japan drier,- one gill; sweet-oil, (pref erably French,) onejandone third quarts; citron-oil, one gill.- T v 3 The varnish serves to soften or'renderv the ink more liquid, at the same time retaining the body thereof. The balsam ,of'copaiba produces luster in'the' ink and causes itto 'perately, thus preventing it from blurring. The
sweet-oil isused to give the ink a uniform consistency and to prevent it from adhering to other surfaces after being applied to the In the process of producing the improved I I ink-reducer the sweet-oil is heated, and this 7 heated oil, together with the varnish and balsam of copai'ba, is run into and through afilter. To this'filtered mixture the citron-oil finishedproduct';
The ink-reducer is used the ink either prior to the application of the ink to the font. in thegprinting-pressor by and the Japan drier are added, producing the by mixing it with pouring the reducer into the font in which" "the ink has already been placed.
' Having thus described my invention, I
claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An improved ink-reducer, consistingotqvarnish, balsam of copaiba,"Japan drier,-
sweet+oil,'and citron-oil in essentiall'y'the pro- "P rtions stated.-
scribed ink-reducer, such process consisting. firstin heating the sweet-oil, seeondin simultaneously admixing 'andfiltering the s 'weet-.
oil, varnish and balsam of copaiba,'and third,
1 in adding thejcitron-oil and Japan drier-to the aforesaid'filtered mixture. v
