PATENT OFFICE.
FRANS HENDRICKX, OFA CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY M.
. MITCHELL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DISPLAY-CABINET-' srncrnloaron forming part of' Letters Patent No. 730,209, dated June 2, 190e.
Application med February 10.1902. serial Nt. 93,428. v (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom/,it may concern; I
Be it known that I, FRANS HENDRIoKx,ja
citizen of the United States of America, and
a residentof Chicago, in' the county of Cook and State of Illinois, Vhave. invented c ertainy new and useful Improvements in Display= Cabinets, of which the following is aspecifi# cation. p 4
" The main objects of my invention are to providean improvedcabinet having therein a plurality of tablets suitable for displaying samples-such as fabrics, pictures,v&c.said tablets being adapted to be withdrawn from said cabinet and turned from .side to side Vto permit the convenient display of thearticles secured thereto, to provide for conveniently examining the texture of the mounted sam-- of said tablets. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the cabinet, showing the construction of same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a formof hinge suitable for connecting the display tablets to l their corresponding slides in said cabinet. n
The device shown consists of a rectangular box or frame l open at the front and having secured to its upper and lower interior surfaces a series of parallel guides 2, which are regularly spaced. The spaces between the guides 2 form ways 3, within which the slides 4are movable. The ways at the top of the cabinet correspond to those at the bottom, so that the slides'4 are supported in a vertical position. `To each of the slides 4 a display. tablet 5 is hinged by means of the pintles 67 and the gudgeons 7. Thisform of 4hinge permits the tablets 5 to be easily disconnected from theslide 4. The front ends of the ways 3 are closed by the stops 8, which prevent the slides 4 from being entirely withdrawn from handles for withdrawing the tablets V 5 from the cabiuetI. The recesses `1.1 in thefront said ways. A picture or a sample 4of .fabric y 9,is secured to each side` of each tablet 5.
The faces of the tablets neartheir front edge' `are provided with notches/TO, which serve as edgefof'each tablet provide means whereby the texture of the fabrics displayed may be examined on both sides withoutloosening the l tacks by means of whichsaid fabrics are se-I cured, As shown in the drawings, it is found convenient to cu't a notch in the fabric on one side of the tablet correspondingto the upper recess l1' and to cut the fabric on the other sideof the tablet.` 5 tocorrespond with the lower recess 11. made somewhat deeper than the stops8,so
that'when the tablet 5 is pushed backwardly l into the frame l said tablet will begfontined by saidlguides against swinging laterally fon,l
its hinges.
`:Theoperation of the device show/nis asf'ol# lows? Samples of fabrics are vsecured. toeach face'of each of the tabletsowSaid" tablets `arej'con'nectxad with their corres'pondingslides; -and 1 pushed backwardly .ilintlo the .,cabinet.,
Allof the'samples willnow be neatlyhoused l within the cabinet. lWhen itis desired to ex?.v l
amine one of said samples, thecorresponding g tablet is withdrawn from'y the cabinet and tu-rn'edVsO-that the desiredsample may be seenfronthe front. 4Tlvletexture of Said sam- Y i i -ple maybe tested'at one of thel notches 11. If it is desired todisplay said sample'inconfv .85 the room, the tablet 5 may be `readily lifted f nection with some article in another part of from its gudgeons without disturbing'the re;v
mainder f the cabinet.
It will be seen that some of the details of the vdevice shown may be altered without de-A parting from the spirit ofrmyjnv'entiom I therefore do not confine myself t o suchv details except as hereinafter limitedfn the claims. l
What I claim as myinvention, an'd'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-,v l. A display-cabinet comprising a having a series of strips, forming ways, 'therein, slides seated in said ways and adapted to f slide therein, a tablet hinged to said slide Ico frame The gUidQS2 are preferably f and having a plurality of cut-away portions on its forward edge, and suitable stops limiting the movement and preventing the removal of said slides, the tablets being adapted to move along in said Ways when in the frame and capable ot' lateral movement to right or left when Withdrawn from the frame, said tablets adapted to have material tacked thereon overlapping the cut-away portions so the material can be inspected.
2. A display-cabinet comprising a frame having a series of ways arranged therein, slide-pieces adapted to slide therein, tablets detachably hinged to each of said slides and having a plurality of cut-away portions in its forward edge, each of said slides being adapted to be moved along said Ways a sufficient distance to allow said tablet to be withdrawn from said frame permitting said tablet to move laterally to right or left or to be entirely detached from its slide, said tablets adapted to have material tacked thereon over lapping the cut-away portions so the material can be inspected.
3. A display-cabinet comprising a frame having a series of strips forming Ways, slides running in said ways, tablets hinged to said slides and running in said Ways and having a plurality of cut-away portions on its for- Ward edge, stops connected to said frame preventing the removal of said slides, said wayforming strips being thicker than the stops which permits the tablets to run therein, and prevents lateral movement thereof when inserted in the frame, said tablets adapted to have material tacked thereon overlapping the cut-away portions so the material can be inspected.
Signed at Chicago this 8th day of February, 1902. FRANS HENDRICKX.
