Be itvknown that I, ANTHONY ISKE, of-Lancaster, in the county of Lancasteiy'i'n the State of Pennsylvania,

have invented-anew and improved Inode of connecting a bell with an ordinary lock, constituting it a Combined Alarm-Lock and Door-Bell; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction 'and operation of the same, reference bcing had to the accompanying drawings making a part'ioi` this s'peciicatiomin which- Figure 1 is a view of the inside oi' an ordinary lock, with my improvements in place.

The nature-of 'my invention' consists in lprovidi'ngan ordinary turning-latch and lock with an alarm-bell attachment, which-can'be easily connected or disconnected, inf-such a manner that when the knob of the door is turned'either to the right or'leit, to open it, -the alarm-bell will sound; as also any attempt to pull the'plate aside that covers the key-hole, either for inserting va key or applying nippers, the alarm will be'given this plate also answering to ring the bell as an ordinary door-bell.

The lock and-the bell used are of 'the ordinary kind in use, and formno part of my invention apart from the additional bolts and connection between the two.

To enable othersskilled in the art to make and apply my invention, a brief explanation is only required,

There is also a hooked bolt, C, and tumbler or lever, D, actuated by the' movements voi`- the latch, as shown in fig. 1, (half.l size,) with the parts in place. The sleeve E has also a connection, resting between'the shoulder m and peg o, on the hooked bolt C, by'its raised lever e.' Thus com bined, the single bolt will act upon the lever or bell-hammer, both' when the knob H is turned on the latch or the knob I drawn aside. By using separate bolts, iig. 4, and two connections, each maybe acted independently of the other." Fig..3 shows the wire, F, connected with the hook c, (extending outside the case of the lock,)

and with the spring-lever and hammer ot' the bell-G.

The operation is'simpleandreadily understood. This arrangement is. useful for various considerations. In front shops, when the attendant is employed in another Toom, 'the entrance of any one is at once announced.

The doo'r` cannot be opened or unlocked without giving-the alarm. The connectioncan be made with anyr kind oi' abcll, eitherv upon the door or remote from it, or any number of bells.

I am aware that alarm-locks have been used before, wherethe alarm'is actuated by the'latch and lock-bolt, so that lhe lockholt will respectively connect or disconnect the alarmllev'er with the latch-bolt, in which a `rocking arm .and slide-lever aro used.
