IMPROVEMENT IN BOOTS.
@Le .stimule nimh tu ittlgesttetttts rtent mit rating gint nt ttt tame.
To ALLl W'HoM rr MAY ooNoERN: Y
Bc it known that'I, JAMES HOLLND, of Conshohocken, .county of Montgomery, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Boots; and I de hereby declare the following to `be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. 'I
My invention relates to `that class of boots-having .pllfilefmlggmy stitehint'fthewlheg a strip or strips of leather or suitable fabric, :La chstrip being foldedpver the upper edgeof the boot, and seored to the outside of the' same by buttons or other suitable fastenings, the pocket's'thus formed' affording, for trav.'
ellers and others, convenient and secure receptacles -i'or bank-notes and other valuables of small bulk;.and my invention consists in applying a wire to th'e upper edge of the boot, so that attempts of pickpockets to cut. v
through the latter may be frustrated. l
In order to enable others to make and apply my invention, I will now proceed to' describe the mode of carrying the-same into effect, reference beinghad to tle accompanying drawing-which forms a. partof this specification, and in which- Figure' 1 represents a side v iew of a'boot partly in section, to illustrate my improvement,
Figure 2 an exterior view of theboot, andl hFigure a. sectional plan on the line 1 2, Iig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
I form two pockets in the inside of the leg of a. boot, by stitching to the sameitwo strips, A and A', of
. leather, or substantial fabric. oth strips are stitchedto' th'e leg near the usual vertical seams a, the strip A being adapted to the front, t, and thestripA to the rear, vMyrthe leg, so that they present no obstruction to the pulling of the boot on to the foot in the usual manner.. The lower edges 'of the strips are securely stitched vto the leg ofthe boot, over the' upper edge of which the strips are folded, as seen in fig. 2, and secured by buttons or other suitable fastenings.
The pockets thus formed beti'm the inside ofthe leg and the strips stitched to the same, aiord for trav ellers :ind others convenient receptacles for bank-notes and other valuables of small bulk, and to which pickpocltets cannot gain access witliiit disturbing the wearer of the boot.
As a. preventive against-any attempt of .thieves lto out downwards into the pockets, I secure to the upper edge ot' the boot, within the fold of the -strip which forms the pocket, 'a ring, d, of steel or other hard metal, or
. a b'eut wire, which cannot be readily severed.
I claim'us my`invention, and vdesire to :secure by Letters Patent- AA metal ring or bent wire, d, applied to the upper edge of the boot-leg, within the folds of the strips A and A', as set forth, forthe purpose speiied.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
l JAMES HOLLAND.
