Description

PATENTED MAY 26, 1903.
F. L. GAUSDBN. PATCH FOR BAND SAWS. APPLICATION FILED APR. 9, 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented May 26, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
PATCH FOR BAN D-SAWS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 729,154, dated May 26, 1903.
Application filed April 9, 1902. Serial No. 102,140. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK LESLIE GAUS- DEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Patch for Mending Saws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to the repairing of cracked or fractured saw-plates; and it consists of a double patch, as will be fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings. I attain these objects in the following manner, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a plate, showing my improved patch applied. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a portion of plate, showing plate prepared for a patch. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on line 3 3, Fig. 1, showing plate prepared for patch. Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the patch in place. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the patch after it has been brazed and finished flush with the plate. Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view on line 6 6, Fig. l, b to be dressed ofi. Fig. 7 is a similar section showing a modified form of construction.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The plateAin Fig. 1 shows patch B applied and brazed by solder O. This is a finished patch, opposite side of plate showing the same.
The plate A, Fig. 2, shows plate grounder filed, as at a ready to receive patch. a represents crack in plate. Opposite side of plate A finished in same manner.
B is the patch ready to place on plate A.
b is the convex or inside of patch.
I) shows ends of patch finished in like manner. Solder is bent same as patch and placed between plate A and patch B. IIot irons are then applied.
Two single patches may be used, as in Fig. 7, B, and a piece of steel or metal made, as D, to hold them in place. The double patch is made so as to slip on over the crack on band-saws or steel plates when they are fitted to receive them. The patches may be made separate and thin piece of sheet-steel made to slip over them and hold them in place when brazing.
The part which is new or my improvement is one patch opposite another patch and the manner of making a double clamp-patch.
I claim A patch for mending saws consisting of a U-shaped piece of metal having its legs in juxtaposition throughout their length, each leg being segmental in cross section, the curved faces being opposed to each other, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK LESLIE GAUSDEN.
