LLEWELYN WATERS, OF EDVVARDSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LUBRICATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 728,146, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed November 13, 1902. Serial No. 131,240. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, LLEWELYN WATERS, a' citizen of the United States, residing at'Edwardsdale, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubri0ators ;..and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same; This invention relates to improvements in lubricators. r l
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction offa gravity-feed oilcup and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and
constructed in accordance with my invention and applied to a journal-box. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the removable diaphragm or seat. valve.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
nal 2, and the reservoir of the oil-cup 3 is detachably secured to the journal bymeans of a screw threaded hollow shank or tube 4, which is formed integral therewith. "A hexagon-shaped nut 5 secures the oil-cup in a locked position upon the journal-box. An ordinary .cap 6 is provided for the oil-cup. A removable cylindrical seat-member 7 has an annular groove 8 for receiving any suitable packing, which acts as a retaining means for the seat and at each of its ends has formed a concaved cut-out portion 9, which is adapted to receive the ball-valve 10 when theseat 7 is forced upon the same in the hollow shank 4. The ball-valve 10 is retained in the shank 4 Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the ball-- hollow shank formed integral therewith, a
1 is a journal-box having therein a jourby means of the flanged edges 11 of the hollowjshank and the removable seat 7. The packing 12 is of such thickness and quality as to-retain the seat 7 in the hollow shank, and said seat is adapted to continually bear against the ball-valve 10, whereby the said valve is held against the journal 2, as shown in the drawings, Fig. l. the seat '1 permits of the. passage of the oil An aperture 13 in when'the' ball-valve is rotated.
. The invention has the following advan- ,t'ages; Theseat will permit of the removal of "the ball-valve without injury to the oil-cup,
and whenthe ball-valve becomes gummed or its rotation becomes otherwise impaired it can be.cleaned,.as well as the inside of the hollow shank. Owing to the construction of the seat it can be replaced in said hollow shank and either of its ends can be forced upon the ball-valve.
Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of the construction may be resortedto without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an oil-cup including a reservoir and a ball-valve seated within the shank, a removable seat in said shank, having concave ends,
- and an annular groove formed on its periphery and suitable means in said groove for retaining said seat within the hollow shank, substantially as described.
2. In an oil-cup including a reservoir and a hollow shank formed integral therewith, a
ball-valve seated within the shank, a removable seat in said shank, having an annular groove and suitable packing contained therein, whereby the seat is retained against the ball-valve, substantially as described.
3. In an oil-cup including a reservoirand a hollow shank formed integral. therewith, a ball-valve seated within said shank, a removable seat having concave ends adaptedto bear against said ball-valve, and. suitable means for retaining said seat'in contact with the valve, whereby the said valve is held valve in contact with the journal, subsanagainst the journal. tially as described. 10 4. In an oiLeup including a reservoir and a In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my hollow shank, an inwardly-extending flange signature in presence of two witnesses. 5 formed integral therewith on its outer end, a LLEWELYN WATERS.
