MOP -WRINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 727,879, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed'J'uly 30, 1902. Serial No. 117,711. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN M. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and improved device for wringing out mops that may be attached to any ordinary pail; and it consists in the device hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims. 7
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient mop-wringer that may be applied to any suitable water pail or tub and -by means of which mop-wringer the mop may be easily wrung out over and into the pail or other vessel to which the wringer is attached without the operator being obliged to take hold of the mop or putting his or her hands into the dirty water, also to construct such wringer in such a manner that the mopwringer pin may be readily removed and the pail to which said Wringer-pin is attached be used, when so required, for other purposes. I attain these objects by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
. which similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevational view of a pail having my invention of a mop-wringing.
attachment applied thereto and showing'the manner of wringing out the mop. Fig. 2. is a detail view of the wringer-pin. Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the wringer-pin-supporting standard. Fig. 4 is a detail front view, and Fig. 5 is a plan view, of the footstirrup by means of which the pail is held steady when the wringer is being used.
A wringer-pin-supporting standard 1 is firmly secured to the side of the pail 2 at the top edge thereof and in position thereon that the wringer-pin 3 will hang over the open top of the pail, (see Fig. 1,) so that when the mop 11 is applied to said wringer-pin 3 the drippings falling therefrom will fall into the pail or bucket 2. The wringer-pih 3 is preferably cylindrical in form and is slightly tapered from a point intermediate its ends to its free end or point, and the larger cylindrical portion or collar end of said wringer-pin 3 is adapted to fit into the bore of the hub 4, formed integral on the standard 1 and by which said wringer-pin is supported, and on the opposite end from the point of said wringer-pin or its supported end is formed the retaining-collar 5 and the depending arm 6, which latter forms a right angle with the stem of the wringer-piu 3. A stop or retaining lug 7 is formed on the top side of the stem of the 'wringer-pin 3 and directly opposite the depending arm 6 and at a distance from the collar 5 .to permitthe hub 4 of the standard 1 to fully take up the space between said stop or retaining lug 7 and the collar 5 of said Wringer-piu 3. A longitudinally-extending slot or way S is formed in the bore of the hub 4 at the bottom side thereof, so that when it is required to remove the wringer-pin 3 from the standard-hub 4. all that is necessary to do is to turn the handle 6 upwardly till in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position the locking or retaining lug 7 is in alinement with the slot or lugway 8, and the said wringer pin 3 is readily removed. The arm 6 .will always assume a depending position, and thus the retaining-lug 7 will be situated on the top side of the wringer-pin 3 and diametrically opposite the lugway or slot 8, and thus the said wringerpin will be locked in position and be perfectly secure.
The mop-holder 9 may be of the usual or any suitable form of mop-holder provided with a handle 10 of suitable and convenient length. The 'mop 11 itself in order to practice my invention must be secured at its ends to said mop-holder to form a loop or looped free end, which looped end is readily passed over and around said wringerpin 3 and twisted or wrung by the operator, as shown inFig. 1, and without the said operator touching said mop or putting his or her hands in the water contained in the pail or other water-containing vessel 2. v
A foot stirrup or rest 12 is secured to the bottom side of the pail 2, diametrically opposed to the standard 1, and said stirrup has its flat outwardly-projecting stirrup portion 13 on a plane with the bottom edge of said pail, and thus said stirrup will contact with the floor or ground upon which the pail is placed, and the said stirrup is provided for the purpose of firmly and steadily holding said pail in position when wringing the mop 11 on the wringer-pin 3.
Having thus fully described this my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to cover by Letters Patent of the United States therefor, is
1. In a mop-wringer, the combination with a receptacle, of a horizontally extending wringer-pin, means permanently secured to the side of said receptacle contiguous to the top edge thereof and whereby said Wringerpin is supported and a bearing on said supporting means wherein said pin is removably secured in position to extend radially over the side of said receptacle toward the center thereof.
2. In a mop-wringer, the combination with a receptacle, of a horizontally extending wringer-pin having a depending arm and an upper retaining-stop, a wringer-pin-supporting standard permanently secured to the side of said receptacle and contiguous to the top edge thereof, said standard constructed with a socket adapted to receive said wringer-pin and a groove by means of which, when said depending arm is inverted saidwringer-pin may be Withdrawn.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing 0 witnesses.
JOHN M. BAKER.
