APPARATUS FOR FEEDING 'BALING PRESSES.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.15, 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNTTED STATES Patented May 12, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
APPARATUS FOR FEEDING BALlNG-PRESSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 727,740, dated May 12, 1903.
' Application filed September 15, 1902. Serial No. 123,448. (No model.)
a device to be attached to a balingpress whereby the material to be baled is fed before the plunger automatically. Figure 1 is a side. view of my invention placed in position upon the baling-press.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig." 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the journals made use of in connection with my invention. Fig. 4 is' a detail perspective View of the adjustable clamps made use of in connection with my invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 indicates an ordinary baling-press, and 6 the plunger-rod. Upon the baling-press 5 are provided suitable bearings 7, located a suitable distance apart, and to the same are pivotally connected semicircular arms 8. To the other ends of the semicircular-arms 8 is attached or formed integral therewith a plate 9, having on its under surface a plurality of projections or teeth 10, the said plate being of sufficient width and length to occupy the space within the baling-press before the plunger to pack the material.
To the semicircular arms 8 are adj ustably connected clamps 11, carrying a horizontal rod or shaft 12, and upon the ends of the shaft 12 are located journals 13, to which are attached one end of the rods 14. The other end of the rods 14 are pivotally connected to a yoke 15, rigidly attached to the plungerrod 6.
The operation of'the device is as follows: .The material tobe fed is fed into the space 16 before the plunger, and as the plunger-rod 6 is drawn outwardly the yoke carried by the plunger-rod 6 pulls upon the rods 14., which in turn draws downwardly upon the semicircular arms 8, bringing the plate 9 into contact with the material, packing the same, and as the plunger-rod 6 is forced inwardly the material packed by the plate 9 is forced within the baling-press, and the feeding device, as before described, is raised out of contact with the plunger in a manner opposite to that previously described-that is to say, the arms and rods are raised by the inward movement of the plunger-rod 6. action is repeated and governed by the action of the plunger-rod 6.
To'regulate the pressure of the plate 9 upon the material to be fed, the clamps 11 are adjusted accordingly on the semicircular arms 8, and by the adjustable location of' said clamps upon the semicircular arms 8 the motion of the device is governed to come into contact at the proper time.
I claim- A device of the class-described, having arms pivotally mounted upon the press, a plate carried by the other ends of said arms, adjustable clamps adjusted to said arms, rods connected to said clamps, and a yoke This pivotally attached to said rods, and rigidly connected to the plunger-rod for operating the device for feeding material within the press, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLIVER O. BOWMAN.
