LEWIS CREW EISIIER,
OF COLUMBUS, OI-IIO.
POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 727,335, 'elated May 5, 1903.` Application led April 22, 1902. Serial No. 104,224. (No'nodel.)
To all whom t may @o7/toorn:
Beit known that I, LEWIS CREW FISHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oolumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Post, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relatesV to improvements in posts in which iron pipe or tubing is used, with the auxiliaries hereinafter specified. Y
The object of the invention is to produce a post having a point provided with recesses for guiding the securing points; further more, to provide a post with openings alining with the recesses of thelug.
Finally, an object of the invention is to provide an anchor-post which will possess ad vantages in points of Simplicity, efciency, and durability, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts, to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a View in elevation, partly in section, illustrating a post, its anchoring means, and the application of the anchoring means. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the point or plug. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the .lower end of the point, the upper portion being sectioned on the line :z: x of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a view in elevation ot' the securing-prongs. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the post and point.
In the drawings, A indicates the anchorprongs, which are curved longitudinally and have their upper ends looped to embrace the link a. The point B has a shoulder o, on
which the tubular post C is seatedsaid post being secured to the point by a pin 12. The point has its upper surface and edge provided with recesses b, inclined from the upper surface, terminating in line with the opening c of the tubular post.
In practice the anchoring-points are applied in the recesses of the post point and are pressed by the rammer D until the said points pass down the inclined su rface of the recesses of the point, through the openings in the post, and into the ground.
The construction, operation, and advantages will, it is thought, be understood from the foregoing description, it being noted that various changes may be made in the proportions and details of construction Without departing from the `scope of the invention.
I am aware of the existence cfa metal fencepost with a tapering point secured by split anchor-bars driven through apertures in the tubular part, also ot a post secured by pins driven from within.
I claim as new in my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent- VIn a device of the character described, a tube having a driving-point at its lower end, said driving-point having inclined grooves cut in its upper portion forming guides and a shoulder formed at the base of the beveled aperture of the point, said tube having openings below the upper end .of the point, coinciding with the inclined grooves, and curved securing-prongs adapted to lie in the groove and projecting beyond the tube as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed, my name to this Specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses:
LEWIS CREW FISHER.
Witnesses:
