CORN-SHOCKER.
SPECIFICATION :itormin'g` part of Letters Patent No. 726,891, dated May 5, 1903.
' j `Application fiieasugust 9. 1902. serial No. 118.985; oto man.)
ful Improvements inCornShockers, of which p the following is la fulldfescription, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings,.in p
` A ter the Shockv has been formed and ,then lifted which- Figure 1 is a perspectiveview of the shock l forming standard cfa cornfshockingmachine with my improvement-s thereon; and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 show the details'fot' construction ot' the same. l
This invention maybe regarded as an improvement on-the construction of the shockforming standard shownlin the patent granted to Frank A.' Ryther, No. 681,513, dated August 27, 1901. p l
The object of theinvention is to facilitate the vertical adjustment of the folding radial arms in devicesof this kind used on cornshocking machines. p
In the drawings, A is a portion ot the rotarytable of the corn-shocking machine, and` B the main portion of the standardsui'tably sustained on the table. It is preferably made of square pipe and maintained in its position by a pin projecting up from the center of the table which enters it, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
Secured tothe lower end of the standard-B- by set-screws or otherwise is the core-foot hinge-block C, having various lugs c, between which the ends of the'core-foot levers D are pivoted. Upon the said core-foot levers D are the lugs (l, adapted to receive the corefoot lever-links l. Surrounding the standard and vertically adjustable thereon by means` hereinafter described is the corearm hinge block E, provided with various lugs e. tween each pair of lugs are pivoted the arms F, which have the inner upturned ends f, as shown in Fig. 2.
Gr is a ring surrounding the standard above the core-arm'hinge-block and having a groove in its lower surface, its outer rim cupping over the short extensions f of the arms F. This ring is free to slide on the said standard B and may be pulled upward at any time by the bars II and H. These barsH and H' are connected at their upper ends to a suitable lm'lechanisrn for moving them, which may be lreadily understood by reference to the patent above referred to and also the patent granted Joseph M. Shively, No. 681,517, dated August 27,1901. When thearms F are set free, they 4fall or drop on.l their pivots to positions alongside the standard. This takes place only afby means of a suitable crane and swung around to a position ready to be dropped.
In ordertthat the foot-levers D at the foot of the shock-formingstandard may also fold, a sleeve .I is provided, which also surrounds the standard ]3. This sleeve J is pivotally connected to the radial arms F by the corearm links f2. Below the sleeve .I is also a similar sleeve'K. Extending from the lugs 7c on this lower Vsleeve K are the core-foot lever-links l, that are hooked into lugs formed on the levers near their pivotal ends. Connecting the sleeve J with the sleeve K is the rod'j, which vis .rigidly secured at k' to the sleeve K and-releasablysecured to the sleeve J bypassing through the secondary sleeve je, formed upon one side ot the sleeved, the rod j passing through an eye formed onlthev bolt jg, which is situated intermediate of and adjacent to the bearing-surfaceof the secondary sleeveji, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The arms Fand D beingthus connected, when the former are set free and fall the latter will also fall.
M M are two rods that are secured vat m m yto the core-'foothinge-block C, whichis attached to the Y'foot of Athe standard BQv These rods M Mextend upwardly and parallel with theV said standard-B and pass through secondary sleeves A't2 in the coro-arm 4hinge-block E. In :these secondary sleeves 2, arranged intermediate of the bearing-surfaces, are the -eyebolts 3,'adaptedeto clamp the rods M M ening the nuts on the eyebolts 3 and j the sleeves E and J are free to move upward or downward without aecting any of the parts secured to the lower portion of the standard, and by tightening the said nuts the adjusted parts can be held in the desired position. The rods j and M M are preferably round bars; but they may be bars of any form and may be clamped to the castings J and E, respectively, by any suitable means that will admit of securement in any desired position.
Integral with the casting E and extending upwardly from the same on opposite sides of the standard B and within the ring G are two lugs, only one, however, being in View on the drawings. The upper ends of Ithese lugs are provided with outwardly-projectingr lips e', which limit the upward movement ofthe said ring G.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a corn-shocker, a shock-forming standard, a hinge-block fixed to the base thereof and provided with a set of radial arms, a second hinge-block sleeved on said shock-forming standard above said fixed hinge-block and also provided with a set of radial arms, rods extending from said fixed hinge-block to said sleeved hinge-block, thereby affording support and adjustment for the latter, and for actuating both sets of arms simultaneously, substantially as described.
2. In a corn-shocker, a shoclnformin g standard, a lower set of radial arms secured at the base thereof, a hinge-block supporting said lower set of radial arms, an upper set of ra dial arms adj ustably located directly above the said lower set, a hinge-block supporting said upper set of radial arms, and rods fixed to and extending from the hinge-block supporting the said lower set of radial arms to and adjustably connecting with the hingeblock supporting the said upper set of radial arms, all combined substantially as described. i
3. In a corn-harvester, a shock-forming standard, a hinge-block Xed to the base there of and provided with radial arms, a sleeve slidably mounted on said standard above the said hinge-block and secured to the lower set of arms by suitable links, an upper hinge-block sleeved on said standard and provided also with radial arms, a second sleeve slidably mounted on the standard below the said upper hinge-block and connected with the upper radial arms by suitable links, rods connecting the said upper and lower hingeblocks adapted to form a support and means of vertically adjusting the former, and a rod connecting the two slidable sleeves, all combined substantially as described.
