To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OSBORN GILLETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woburn, in the county of Middlesex and State of Masssachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in eyeglasses; and the main object of my invention is the provision of a novel means for securing the bow and pad-supports to the glass frames so that they do not work loose, thus remedying the worse defect in the eyeglasses in general use.

Another object of my invention is the provision of an eyeglass which is very simple in construction and thoroughly efficient and practical in use.

To attain the desired objects, my invention consists of an eyeglass embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.

By this construction it will be seen that not only does the screw assist in holding the parts together, but the cone-shaped portion forces these split ends apart and causes their outer sides to forcibly contact the flanges, so that a binding result is effected. These split ends are separated by means of a long slot K, which extends from the extreme end to a distancebeyond the opposite side of the opening.

What I claim as new is- 1. An eyeglass, comprising a bow-spring, a pad-supporting means, and a flanged plate, said bow-spring and pad-supporting means each being provided with a slot through one end of the bow-spring and pad-supporting means respectively, in combination with a screw for entering the slot and causing the ends to spread apart and impinge the flangeplate.

2. An eyeglass, comprising a flanged plate or socket, a bow-spring and a pad-support each having one end mounted in said plate, said spring and support each having aslot in the same end, a screw adapted to pass through the flanged plate and the slot of the bowspring and pad-support and cause the ends to spread apart and impinge the inner walls of the flanged plate.

3. A connection for eyeglasses, comprising a plate having flanged sides, a terminal fitting in said plate and provided with 'a slot therein, and a screwadapted to ,enter said slot of the terminal and force the sides of the terminal adjacent to the slotinto contact with the flanges of the plate.
