Description
@uiten tetes getint @frn MORRIS BOTTICHER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 72,595, dated .December 24, 1867. I
IMIROVBMENT IN STEAM-GAUGES.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, MoBRIsBoTTIcHEn, of Newark, in the county of Essex, in the State of New Jersey,
have invented a new and improved Pressure or Vacuum-Gauge; andpI do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, an'd to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the centre of gauge.
Figure 2, a front elevation. l
The gauge is attached to the pressure or vacuum-chamber by means of the pipeA and nut B. The pressure, passing through the openings C C into the chamber D, comes iu Contact with the flexible disk E, which is held in its place by passing between the capF and base G. I The cap F and base G are fastened securely together by means of the screws H H', making, in connection with the disk E, a tight joint. The chamber formed by the cap F, above the disk E, is filled with mercury through the opening I, which is closed by the screw J. The screw J is also used for the purpose ofadjusting the mercury to its proper height in the glass tube K. The
glass tube K is held in its place at'the bottom by means of the stuing-gland L and nut M, and is protected its entire length by means-ot` the metal tube N, havingthe pressure-scale marked upon it.
When the pressure is admitted toA the chamber D, the disk E willbe forced up, d-ecreasingthe space in the chamber O, and causing the Inercury to rise lin the tube K, and indicating the pressure per square inch by the aid of the 'scale N. c
When used for a'vacuum-gauge, the tube K will be filled with mercury to a proper height, and beingvopen at the top, when the action ofthe disk-causes the chamber O to be enlarged, the mercury will fall inthel'tube K.
, l Claim.
What I claimas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Thearrangement of the adjustable screw J with cap F of the gauge, substantially as herein described.
