1 UNITED STATES PATENT" OFricE.
GEO G E. BROWN, or ALASKA, MICHIGAN.
i BAG-HOLDER:
SPECIFICATION form n part of Letters Patent No. 725,538, dated April i4, i903.
. Applieationfile ihne9,1902; ssa1'n0. ,11'o,92s.- oromodir To all whom it may concern/:1
Be it known that I',.G O GE Baown, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alaska, in the 'countyofKent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and use- .ful Improvements inBagHolders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
effective, and capable of :being turned aside edge of thede'tail's of.;construction of the and exact description of the, invention,such-as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This inventionhas forits object to provide novel means for holding, a bag or sack in proper position with itsmonthjexpanded'to facilitate filling the same with .the'goods to besacked. a The primary-object ofithe. invention is to devise a deviceofrt he character aforesaid which will be light, readily operable, cheap,
so as not to be in the way when not required for immediate use.
For a full description of the inventionand the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowlmeans for effecting the result reference is to be had to, the following description and draws ings hereto attached;
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are susceptible of modi 'fication, still the preferred embodimentof the invention 'is'illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which+ V I l x Figurel is a perspective View showing the invention applied. 1 Fig. 2 is aaperspective view of the bag-holder as it appears when not in use and disconnected from any support. 1
Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Correspondingand like, parts are referred to in the followingdescription andindicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters. V i
The bag-holder comprises, essentially, two
- parts, a bag-engaging member-l and-a clamp i. which the journals' i obtain a bearing. The
end portions 7 between theeye 3 and journal 4:- near each end of the member 1 are inclined to the plane of thebow 1"to' admit of the main portion of the v holder occupying an approxi mately'horizontal position,as'shown most 4 clearly in Fig. 3, this being of advantage, as will be more fully explained hereinafter, The clamp member 2 is'provided at its outer end with'a catch '8, formed byacrimp orshortbend, audits end portions are bent outward, as shown at 9, to obtain a bearing in the eyes 3, thence about at a right angle to form braces lO'to obtain. a'purchase against the s'upport5, so as to holdthe device in operative positiomas shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 3; The bow 2, journals 9,'and
braces 10 are about in* the same plane, and the braces 10 are of'a length proportionate to the length of the inclined arms 7, so as to engageiwith the surface of the support 5 and hold the device in proper position.
[The members of theholder are preferably constructed of spring-wire of proper gage bent into the form substantially as shown. The'device may be attached to the side of the Wall or other-convenient su pport and is adapt-i immediate use. When in o'perativeposition," theholder projects outwardfrom the support 5 about at a right angleand is maintained in, position by the-braces 10. The bag or sack- 11 to be filled has its outer portion folded over the bag-engagiugmember 1 and secured thereto by the clamp member 2, the catch 8 engaging over the outer end of the member 1 and holding the two members Land 2 togethenwith the-edge portion of the bag 11 clamped therebetween, as shownmost clearly in Fig. 1. The rearportion of the bag. is-en-- 'gaged over'theends of the" braces 10 and is confined between said braces'and the support the bag is filled it is released by disengaging the catch 8 fromthe member lfand turning the member 2 upward and the same. time turning thememberl, whei'eby'the bag-will disengage itself from the device without requiring further manipulation.
'5, this being clearly shown in Fig. 1. After The clamp member 2 hasthe rearendsof the braces 10 bent up, as shown at 12, toprel vent slipping of the bag 11 when fitted thereto. The catch 8 has a short bend 13 near the plane of the member 2 to engage positively with the member 1 to'prevent casual separation of the members when the bag is fitted to the holder and clamped between the members thereof.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isi 1. In abag-holder, abag-engaging member, a clamp member pivoted directly to the bagengaging member, the said clanip member having integral extensions in the rear of the pivotal connection for engagement with the rear portion of the bag, and means for securing the two members when the bag is clamped therebetween, substantially as set forth.
2. In al'iag-holder, a bag-engaging member, a clamp member having offset partsjournaled to the bag-engaging memberand having brace extensions in the rear of the offset parts for engagement With the bag and also adapted to hold thedevice in proper position by means for securing the two members when the bag is clamped therebetween, substantially as 3. In a bag-holder, a bag-engaging member pivoted to a support to fold thereagainst, and a clamp member pivoted to the bagengaging member to fold therewith and having independent pivotal movement to admit of clan1ping and releasing the bag, and also having integral brace extensions to engage with the aforementioned support to hold the bag-engaging and clamp members in an approximately horizontal position, substantially as set forth.
4. In a bag-holder, a bag-engaging member i provided with eyes at its rear ends and inclined arms adapted to pivotally support the device, and a clamp member pivotedto the bag-engaging member and having rear brace extensions for supporting the holder in an approximately horizontal position, substantially as set forth.
5. The herein-described bag-holder comprising a bag-engaging member having eyes
