HEATING OR COOKING STOVE.
%PEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 2 1 ,7 56, dated March 3, 1903.- Application filed August 13, 1902. Elerial No. 119,513. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILIP SAMUEL SPIL- LER, of Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Heating or Cooking Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to heating-stoves; and the invention consists of special details of construction and combination of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully described and the novel features pointed out in the claim.
In order to enable others to make and use my invention, I will now ,proceed to describe it in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the lettersof reference thereon, which form a part of thisspecification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, part broken away, showing my invention in connection with a heating-stove; and-Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of cooking-stoves, illustrating myinvention in connection therewith,'the latter view showing a stove with a common Water-tank in position adapted to be heated.
In carrying out my invention I construct the body of a heating or cooking stove with double walls A and B. The said walls are arranged to provide a space or passage O,,en-. g 7 Within the passage 0, I arrange a diaphragm or divisioncircling the body of the stove.
wall D, slightly modified. V
In Fig. 1 the diaphragmD extends from a point E, where it is riveted or otherwise secured to the outer walls of the stove. The said point of connection of the diaphragm D should be just above the smoke or gas escape pipe F and then curved inwardly to about midway of the heat-passage C and then con'-' .thereby providing increased radiation, and
the latter providing a return-passage from the point G of the division-wall D to the exitpipe F. Vith a heating-stove constructed in radiator form, as shown in Fig. 1, and having the exit-pipe F connected as indicated increased radiation of heat is not only had from the inner wall B, but with a return-passage J, extending from near the burner H, the stove is provided with a heating-surface covering practically its whole body portion. For provding heat I employ a burner adapted to burn crude petroleum-oil, (in the several figures indicated, respectively, ,H H H The burner is arranged in the passage 0 at the far side of the stove from the exit-pipe, and directly underthe burner the passage 0 isclosed by a trough K, from which latter extends a tube L,'leading down through the floor to a suitably-located 'catchbasin or into the ground, as may be desired. The trough K is designed in addition to close the passage 0 at this point to catch escaping oil when lighting the burner or any dripping that may result from not completely closing the valve M in the feed-pipe N, .whichlatter are only shown in Fig. 20f the drawings;
0 O 0 indicate draft-openings, and P P show doors in the sidewalls above the draftopenings. The said doors may be hinged, as shown in Fig 1, or sliding, as shown in Fig. 2. In Fig. 2 the exit-pipe F is arranged to provide an outlet near the base of a cooking-stove.
The arrangement of the division-wall D in Figs.-2-and 3 is substantially the same; but
in Fig. 3 the passage J ends into a passage R,
extending up and over a common water-tank S to the. exit-pipe F It is obvious that my invention may be adapted, without departing from the spirit thereof, to any heating or cooking stove employing a grate should such stove have double walls adapted to form a heating-space similar to the space 0 shown in the several fi gur esof my d'rawings.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A heatingstove employing a substantially O-shaped open center body portion adapted to be supported in upright vertical position, the said body portion having an inner continuous heat-passage, a division-wall in the heat-passage extending from a point against the inner outer side wall of the body portion,
bove the smoke-outlet, and down the heatthe said trough, and a draft-opening in the passage to a point near the far side of the side wall of the body portion near the burner stove, providing a closed return-passage from substantially as described.
the said far side of the stove to the smokev PHILIP SAMUEL SPILLER. 5 outlet, a trough closing the heat-passage at Witnesses:
the far side of the stove from the smoke-out- J. O. CALDWELL,
let, a burner in the heat-passage just above II. M. LITTLE.
