WIRE-HOLDER FOR TROLLEY-WIRES OF ELECTRIC RAILWAYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 721,734, dated March 3, 1903.
Application filed December 26 1901 To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUDWIG VON ORTH,(lOctor of philosophy, a citizen of the German Eur pire, residing at 9 Ludwigskirchstrasse, Berlin W., Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Wire-Holders for Trolley-Wires of Electric Railways, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wire-holders for trolley-wires of electric railways; and it consists in fitting to the ordinary wire-holderwireholding devices which are connected in a yielding manner with the wire-holder and secure the wire at points which are located on the farther side of the points of attachmenton ordinary wire-holders.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ordinary wire-holder with the end of a wire held thereby. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a wire-holder according to my invention. Fig. 3 is a modification of the wire-holder shown in Fig. 2.

The result is that the wire breaks less frequently than when it is held by the ordinary holder a; but in cases in which the wire breaks it is held by the claws 0, c and 0 as the breakage is always close to the holder a, as has been shown by experience.
In contradistinction to known arrangements for preventing damage when the wires break, by cutting off the current from the broken wires, in which case it must be assumed that an adjacent Wire is present that is connected to the other pole, by my construction of wire-holder only the falling of broken wires is prevented without having to rely on the cooperation of another wire in order to out off current from the broken wire.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in what manner the same is performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. In a holder for electric-railwaytrolleywires, the combination of a non-flexible holder adapted to support the strained wire, and an auxiliary flexible holder connected at one end to the non-flexible holder and at its other end to the wire and being normally under no said flexible holdenbeing normally under no 10 strain from said wire, substantially as and strain from said wire, substantially as and for for the purpose set forth. the purpose set forth.
