' IMPROVEMENT INVENTILATING lIUNNBLS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Beit known that I, HUGH BowLBY WILLsoN, of the city and county of New York., in the State of New York, have invented a new and improved Method of Ventilating Railway-Tunnels constructed underneath the streets or other parts of cities and towns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of the speciication', in whieh A represents a cross-section of a. street-railway tunnel." i Y l -B B the columns for receiving and discharging the air in the manner hereinafter speciiethwhich columns it is intended shall be substituted for the lamp and awning-posts before in use, and which may beapplied to any other use, or for ornament and l f l C C are the pipes connecting alternately with the top and bottom, o'rother part of vsuch tunnels, the former n arrangement being preferred. i i

What I do claim as my invention and improvement, is- V 1. The method of apply-ing street-lamp posts, and awning and other usi'ul or ornamental posts, pillars, or structures to the purposes of Ventilating underground railway-tunnels, substantially as within described.
2. I claim thecombination of street-lamp posts, and awning and other posts, pillars, or structures, whether for ornament or usc, with the connecting-tubes of such railway-tunnels, substantially in manner set forth. H UGH B. WILLSON.
