UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AARON SERFOSS AND ELLEN O. SERFOSS, OF ASHLEY, PENNSYLVANIA.
SKIRT-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters.1 atent No. 721,096, dated February 17, 1903.
7 Application filed February 3, 1902. Serial No. 92,350. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, AARON SERFOSS and ELLEN O. SERFOSS, citizens of the United States, residing in the borough of Ashley, county of Luzerne, and State of Pennsylvania, have jointly invented a new and useful Skirt-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements inv skirt-supports; and the object in view is the provision of means for supporting a skirt in an even and smooth condition and with perfoot comfort to the wearer.
With this and other objects in view it consists of a plate of suitable material and means for securing the same to a waist, the said plate being bent for permitting .its upper edge to receive skirt-supporting hooks, with the inner vertical portion thereof lying flush with the general inner face of said plate.
It consists of certain other novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a View in side elevation of a skirtsupporter embodying the features of our invention. Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a transverse section taken on the plane of line a a of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 represent detail views of the skirt -supporting hooks.
The present improved skirt-supporter consists, as will be apparent from the accompanying drawings, of a plate 5 of suitable length and width, bent to conform to the general contour of the body and preferably formed of any suitable metal. Arranged centrally at the upper edge of said plate is a suitable safety-pin, as 3, the edge of the plate being formed with a notch for receiving the pin, said pin having its coiled end partially surrounded by the material of said plate, as at 6, and the body of the pin is similarly surrounded, as at 7, whereby in operation frictional contact with contiguous garments is prevented. At either side of said pin the said plate is-bent outwardly and then inwardly, forming a transverse vertical groove, as 4, in the general form of the plate, whereby any suitable skirt-supporting hooks, as 1, may be caused to engage the upper edge of said plate, with their inner ends lying flush with the general inner face of said plate. Although we have only illustrated two of grooves 4, yet it will be apparent that their number may be varied at will. Suitable transverse slots, as 2, are preferably formed near the ends of said plate 5, designed to receive a retaining-ribbon adapted to be passed about the waist for retaining the plate against movement.
In practice the pin 3 is attached to the waist, a ribbon is passed through slots 2 and secured about the waist, and the hooks 1, secured to the skirt, are caused to engage the upper edge of the supporter-plate at the point of the grooves 4., whereby a smooth even arrangement of parts is produced.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I A skirt-supporter, comprising a plate of suitable material, curved to conform to the general contour of the body, provided with an elongated notch in its upper edge, and a safety-pin secured within said notch by having a portion of said plate surrounding the body portion of the pin, and a further portion surrounding the coil of said pin, said plate "being designed to receive a skirt-supporting means, substantially as described.
