BURNER-CAP FOR INCANDESCENT GAS-BURNERS.

Beit known that I, JAMES N. WEBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Burner-Cap for Incandescent Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification. I j
My invention has for its object toprovide caps for incandescent gas-burners which neatness of finish and attractiveness of gen-' eral appearance. With this end in View I have devised the novel burner-cap which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this'specification,and using reference characters to des- 2 5 ignate the several parts.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my novel burnercap complete, a double mantle-holder used in connection therewith being indicated by dotted lines; Fig. 2, an inverted plan view corresponding with Fig. 1; Fig. 3, an elevation illustrating a slightly-variant form of my invention, and Fig. 4 is an inverted plan View corresponding with Fig. 3.
10 denotes the cap, and 11 sockets for a mantle-holder,which are formed integral with the cap and are left attached at both sides, thereby giving to the completed cap a neat and attractive appearance which cannot, so
far as I am aware, be attained when the caps are made in any other way-and enabling me to produce them with a reduced number of mechanical operations without waste of material and at the least possible expense.
My novel burner caps are cupped and 5 drawn from blanks of sheet metal to a size slightly greater than the size of the completed caps. Transverse cuts or openings are then made, as at 12, and the metal is closed in to the size of the completed cap, leaving the sockets 11 on opposite sides thereof and exterior thereto. In the form illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 the sockets are completed by closing in the metal at the base of the sockets, so as to form necks 13, thus leaving the sockets exterior to and practically separate 1 from the caps, but an integral part thereof and perfectly rigid, as the metal forming the sockets is connected on both sides of the sockets to the body of the cap.
In the formillustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 the metal at the base of the sockets is not closed in to form necks, as in the other form,-but the same purpose is accomplishedthat is, the shanks of the mantle-holder are inclosed in use so as to be held firmly and outside of the body of the cap bystriking down portions of the sockets and forming bridges 14., the shanks of the mantle-holders in use passing within the sockets, as in the other form, but lying outside of the bridges.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. A burner-cap for incandescent gas-burners, comprising a casing having openings, said casing being provided with bulged portions spanning said openings and forming sockets, said bulged portions on both sides of said openings being an integral part of the same piece of metal as said casing.
