TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN :A 4
Be it known that I, ZADOK HOWE, of Lowell, in the county of Kent, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-wringerst and,do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of thisspecification, A represents the mop, bucket, or tub, which is made in any of the known and usual ways. B and C represent two rollers, which have suitable axles, and which lie across the top of the bucket. Roller B has its 'bearings in plates D, which are made stationary, or are permanently secured to the sides of the bucket. Roller C has its bearings in the plates or bars E, which are pivoted to the bucket in such a manner that said roller may be moved to or fron the stationary roller B. The bail of the bucket marked F, has its ends provided with holes, into which the ends of the axle of roller C pass, allowing said bail to turn upon said ends as pivots. This bail is made of spring steel, or other suitable material, and has confined to its centre, by a pivot, one end of a treadlc, The other end of the treadle is hinged, as seen, to the edge of the bucket. By raising the inner or pivoted' end of the treadle, the roller C is separated from roller B,A so that the mop can be inserted between them. By pressing' down upon the treadle the roller C is forced toward the roller B, and made to press against it, accordingr to the strength ofthe spring of the bail.- V i' In using this machine, the operator holds the mop-handle in his hands, and after closing the rollers upon the mop by pressing upon the treadle with his foot, he draws the mop from between the rollers. He continues this, and subjecting the mop to as much pressure as will squeeze the water from it, thus cleanses it.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- The treadle G, and'spring-bail F, in combination with the rollers B and C, thc same beingused as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 29th day of July, 1867.
