A'IO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that l, MARTIN HILTZ, of' Gloucester, in the county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in' Fishing-Line Swivels; and do hereby declare the same to be Fullyl described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a side elevation, `and Fig'res 2 and 3 longitudinal sections of' my improved swivel. v
The common swivels, as ordinarily constructed, and as used by fishermen, are very liable to become worn and broken, and when so are diicult of, repair, or generally have toV be discarded. My improved swivel is so constructed that the parts most liable to Wear can be easily removed from the rest, and others substituted, thlis rendering it unnecessary to detach the swivel from the spreader or hook-line supporter.
In the drawings, A denotes the base portion of the swivel, it being provided with a grooved extension, aa,
by which it may be tied or secured to the spreader by means of cord wound around it, and the branches of the' extension. The base part A extends into and is jointed t-o a fuma-ted portion, B, the joint-pin going through the two being seen at b. The pbrtion B is formed tubular, or with a hole, c, extending through it axially, such being for the reception of the shankiof` a screw-bolt or pin, D, which is passed up through the hole c, so that the head el of the bolt shall be within the fork of the pai-t B. The upper portion C of the swivel is provided with a hole, f, to receive the shank of the bolt. Such partC turns'on the bolt, and is made with a. chamber, e, extending transversely through it, such chamber being to receive two nuts, q h, which are screwed upon the bolt, one serving as a check-nut forthe other. Now, in case of breakage or'wear of the bolt, it may be easily removed from the parts B C, and another substituted 4Without rendering it necessary to abandon the parts AB C.
The swivel, constructed as above described, is preferable in several respects to the common swivel.
I claim the improved swivel, as made `with thescrew-bolt D and the nut-chamber e, arranged and combined,"
as explained, with theparts A B G, constructed and appliedtogether as specified.
. MARTIN HILTZ.
