TO -ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, LEONARD FELKER, of Tewksbury, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and usci'ul Improvements in Corn-Cake Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exactv description thereof, reference beingthad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. i
The nature of my invention consists in providing a corn-paire machine, having its several-'parts and devices so arranged and combinadas to form, press, cut, and finish the cake at one operation, entire'.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. I
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved corn-cake machine.
, Figure 2 represents a plan of thesame.
1 Figure 3 represents a longitudinal section of the same.
Similar letters in the diii'erent figures indicate corresponding parts.
a represents the frame, the top of which is providedwith suitable guides, b b I1', on which the table b slides. To this table b are attached the racks c c. dd are two upright movable or adjustable stands, which are held in position by suitable screws, passing through the slots e'e into the frame a permanently. Connected with andrunning in the adjustable stands d cl is the pressure rotating cutting-cylinder f, this cylinder being provided with stationary cross-cutting knives ff and adjustable finishers g g, thesefinishers being operated by suitable springs, g y. The cylinder f is also provided with-gears, h 7i., which are iirmly secured on each end to the same, and connect with and gear into the racks c c. iis the rotating cylinder, which is provided with the required number of cutters, i i', running onits journals in the bearings of the adjustable stands d d. Attached and fastened to the cylinder z' is the gear j.` j is the driving-shaft, which runs on its journals in the bearings of the adjustable stands d d, and is providedwith apulley or crank, c, to which the power is applied, and gear l, which connects with the gears 7i and j. m is the stationary cutter-clearer, its object being to keep the cutters z" z" clean when in operation, and is secured by its arms to the cap n, whichholds and connects the adjustable stands cl d at thet'op. o is the weight, which is attached to the under side of the table t by a cord, strap, or
chain, which passes over a suitable pulley, indicated bydotted lines in figs. 1 and 3, andp is the lever, which is attached to the girt g, this girt connecting and fastened to the adjustable stands cl d,'the object of thel lever p being to raise the adjustable stands d d, disen'gaging the gears i h from the racks c c," which allows the table b to run back, by aid of the weight o, to its required location. y
i The machine being thus arranged and constructed, the power is appliedto the crank or pulley c. The corn cake material is suitably spread on the table b". The operator then disconnects the leverp from the catch r,
which allows the adjustable stands Z d to descend, carrying down 4the cylinders f and z', which connects the gears 7i h with the racks c c, at'the same instant; bringing in contact the staionary knives fff and finishers g g with the cake-material, carrying forward the table b', with its contents, directly in under the cyiinderz', and in contact with'the cutters e" i', to the end of" the racks c c. This operation completely presses, cuts the cake lengthwise and crosswise, entirely finishing` it. The cake is then removed from the table b. The operator then presses down the levcrp into the catch 7'. This disengages and raises the entire apparatus from the `table b', allowing the table L to resume its former position, by aid of the weight o, for anotherfresh lot of material.
If moro wcight'is desired to give the required pressure to the cake-to finish the same, it can beY applied to the 4stands cl d, cylinder f, or girt q.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is 1. I claim the rotating cylinder z', with its cutters i in combination with the rotating cylinder f,'with its stationary knives ff, and adjustable finishers g g, when arrangcdito operate forV the purposes substantially as described and set forth. I v A 2. I clairii the pressure rotating-cylinderv'f, with stationary knives ff, and adjustable finishers g g, substantially as described and set forth. I
3. I'claim the clearer m, in combination with the rotating cutters 'L'.,as described. Y..
4. I claim the adjustable stands d al and lever p, in combination with the table b' and weight o, when arranged to operate substantially as described.
LEONARD FELKER.
