Description
UNITE-D STATES PATENT FFICE.
HENRY C. LEVIS, OF MILLER TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED RAILROAD-SWITCH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 71,769, dated December 3, 1867.
To all lwhom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, H. C. LEWIS, of Miller township, in the county of Perry, and in the which form the switch so that they meet prop-v erly to form a continuous railroad-track, according to the direction it is designed to have the track and the cars run. The switch-rails have one end permanently secured to the tie,
' while their other ends are secured in openings formed in Aan iron bar, so that they cannot spread, and so that they may be moved simultaneously.
M N O P represent the bars in which the switch-rails lie, which said bars run to the switch-posts q q, and are operated by the levers R R. J and K represent two of the switchrails, Gr and D represent two, and E and F represent two. These movable rails connect with stationary rails, and are shifted to suit the nature of the case, either to run cars to a switch or to continue them upon the main track.
Having thus fully described myl invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The chains provided wit-h bolts which pass into cross-ties for securing the rails J K, and allow the same to be moved laterally, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of April, 1867.
HENRY C. LEWIS.
Witnesses GEORGE LosH, DAVID WAssoN.
