TO ALL WHOM ITMAY GONOERN:
Be it known thatI, SEBASTIAN LEONARD, Jr., of the county of Fairfield, und State'of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whichu Figure 1 is a perspective view of asection of fence constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Figure 2 is e cross-section through the centres of the fence-posts.
' The object of my invention is to construct a fence which can be readily taken down and moved from place to place, and which, whenput up, will be as strong und durable as any other now in use.
To enable others to make ond use the same, I will now proceed to describe it by reference to the :Lecompanying drawings.
A B are the fence-posts or nprights, to which the bars H are secured in any suitable manner. The postA is provided wit-h two projections at its lower end, a and a', one of which rests against a corresponding projection b, on the post B, while the other uiords e bearing for the head of the key C. D is o bruce, slotted at its upper end to embrace the posts Aand B, and has amortise at its lower end to receive the key C', which likewise passes l.through a similar mortise in the cross ground-sill E into the ground, the head of said key bea-ring against the brace D and holding it in place. At the other end of the cross-sill E is a. mortise, into which' is inserted the *ends-of the postsA undB und the key C. The key being driven firmly into the ground and bearing against the projection Aa on the post A, renders it impossible to take out the posts without i'rst removing the said keys.
c c are bolts passing through the keys C and C', to hold them in place.
What I claim as my Jinvention, andddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the posts -A B, the keys C and C', brace D, und cross ground-sill E, all constructed and arranged substantially es and for the purpose described.
SEBASTIAN LEONARD, JR..
