'ro ALL WHOM 1T MAY eoNeERN:
Be it known that I, ASHBEL P. BARLOW, of' the town of Claremont, in the county of' Sullivan, State of New Hampshire, have invented a new' and improved Mode of Hanging Curtains, called the Banner-Curtain Hanging; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing` the curtain ina closed condition.
Figure 2 showing the `top of curtain dropped.
Figure 3 showing the bottom of curtain raised. p
Figure 4 showing top dropped, bottom raised, and curtain left in centre of window.
The advantages are as follows: First, its utilitynnd cheapness; second, the curtain can be placed in any desired position, so that the 'air can be admitted at'the top or bottom of windows, or both, as may bc desired.
I will now proceed to explain my invention, so that any one skilled in the use of tools may be enabled to make Athe same.
Letters a a a aa in fig. 1 represent eye-screws screwed into or above the window-casing, through which the cord runs for raising and loweringl the curtain. Those on the right support the cord attached to the top of curtain, which is designed to lower or raise it to any given height. Those on the left support the cord attached to bottom of curtain, for same purpose. represents a small wire, string, or piece of wood, fastened across the curtain to the window-frame, a little above the centreof the curtain, tohold it in place while the curtain is being raised or lowered.v c c c efare eye-screws (or eyes turned 'on the end ot' wire, as may be desired,) screwed into the end of small wooden rods, `to fasten the cord d to. e represents a common eurtain-1ing, fastened at the centre of cord d, to fastenrjtheeordfon the right side, to be fastened at the top of curtain. g represents cord on the-left side, to be fastened at the bottom, same as cordf at the top, cord y running down through the centre of curtain.
What I claim as my invention, is
In combination with a central supporter, b, the cords d d and t a, with their supporting-eyes, for lowering the upper and raising the lower partiof the curtain without rolling it, all as set forth and specified. I
V ASIIBEL I. BARLOW.
