fitte Stimme :mmh tn in time Enters mfmt nn making mi ni thi time.
Be it known that I, W. T. C. RUNNELLKSLof Secrsport, in the county of Waldo, andStnte of Maine, have invented a. new and useful Mechine for W'shing Clothes; and I hereby declare thatthe following is u. full, clear, and exact description of the construction and-operation of the same, referencebeing-hnd to'theunnexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure'l is a. perspective view.
Figure 2, interior section, and in whichlettena is u. tub; b, crunk c, pulley-block on crank; d, shaft; e, top'of carrage; f,boxes for weight; g, wash-boards; h,long bed-peces of wash-board; z', compositionibruces for rollers; j, groovcd rollers; c, pulley-line; m, hinge.; n, button; o, hook; p, line fastened vto hind end oi". wash-board; g, peg to which said line may be fastened; r, staple; s, cock; t, hook;` u, hinges to wash-board;
v v, tnb-legs; w, pieces to which hinges are attached; z, pin to hold up front end of carriage. Crosswiseupon the hindend of a. t'ub, made invshape like tub a, in fig. 1, I place a. crunk, bent in the centre as shown by IJ, in same figure, and on the bottom of the tub I put a. wash-board, a. part of which can be rnised by means of hinges u, as shown in iig. 2. Upon this board'I place a carriage, which I make by` fastening grhoved rollers beneath, and to a top board, e, by means' of composition-roller braces z', and bolts; the cartilage to be just wide enough to play within and lengthwise of the tub, but shorternthan the tub. Upon the top board of the carriage I place boxesf, lin which to put send or other heavy substance. When the clothes ure to be' put in, hook the line /l'to the hooks in pulley, turn the crank until the carriage is drawn back und the front end raised up; press in the Y pin :c to hold it-up; spread in the clothes upon the bottom josh-board, as for back as the hinges u; then take the, line c from, pulley and hook it on o on the shaft, thzit it in ny'be handy, yet not in the way; place the'notch in the shaft upon the 'bend in the centre of the crank b, and fasten it by means of hingeend bhtton m and n; t
pull the line p, attached to -the'wash-board, and fasten it upon the peg q, thus turning thee'rd of the washeboztrd up on-the hinges u.
To wash the clothes, turn the crunk, which puts the carriage-,in motion,'and forces the rollers, vithlthe' weight upon them that' maybe necessary, over theclothes, which koperation e'ectually rolls, rubs, and presses out the dirt, and thoroughly'washes the clothes.
' What I claim as myinvention, and: desire to secui'e byLetters Patent, is
The combination of the corrugated and hinged bottom q with. ,the rollei's j, table e, n'eight-boxesf, shaft d,
