. Improvements in Garment-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,

It also consists, inconibination with a pair? of trousers having a button secured on the inside thereof, of a loop of elastic material and a clamping-sleeve securing the ends of the said elastic together, the clam ped ends of said loop being secured to the trousersA near said button, whereby the loop is designed to be passed through a suitable tab carried by the garment to be supported and thenr secured` about said button.

The invention also consists incertain other novel constructions, combinations, and arthereto, parts of the trousers being broken p away for the saving of space. Fig. 42' represents a vertical section through a portion of the trousers, showing one of my improved tabs or supporting-loops applied. Fig. 8 represents a view in side elevation of two of the simplest forms oftabs or loops. Fig. 7 represents a detail view, in side elevation, of one form of a supporting-tab; and Fig. 8 represents a similar view of a slightly diferent form thereof. In the art to which the present invention 'relates it has been found desirable to provide means for supporting the undergarment by trouser attachments, and in order to attain the best results, produce the most durable device, and at the same time obtain a. simple arid comparatively cheap attachment I employ any of the varying forms of tab, the same being attached on the inside of a pair of trousers, preferably by sewing or otherwise, and usually on the inside of the lining thereof, passed through said lining and extending beyond the same, as best seen in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the said tab being designed to be passed through a loop secured to the garment supported, as seen in Fig. l, and then passed about a button, such as shown at la, carried on the inside of the trousers, whereby the said undergarment may be securely retained in place.

As seen in Fig. 3, I may employ a tab, as l, of cord elastic having its ends secured together by being bound by thread or other- Wise, as at 2, the said ends beingdesigned, as above stated, to be secured'in any suitable manner to the inside of a pair of trousers, and preferably to the inside of the lining thereof, and having its free end extending through the lining, and it will of course be understood i 1 `that the same application is intended to be Figure 1V made of all of the varying tabs hereinafter to be described. In the said Fig. 3 the tab 3 is composed of a strip of elastic material of any suitable size designed to be `secured at one end and provided with a buttonhole, as 4t, at The other, the said buttonhole in practice inclosing the button carried by the inside of the trousers-the same as the loop portion of the tab 1,` above described. It will be seen by reference to Fig. 4C that any oneY of a variety of forms of tabs may be employed, each being slightly modified in construction from all the others and having its particularadvantage. Each of these tabs is preferably formed of a cord, as 5, usually of elastic, having its ends secured together by one or more clamping-sleeves, as 6, thereby forming a sultable loop for engaging a button. The tab 7 of the IOO said figure has its ends preferably held by a single clamping-sleeve and may be secured in position upon the trousers to which it is applied by threads passed over the said sleeve and between the ends of the cord forming the loop. The loop 8 is preferably composed of a single strand of lexible material and has its ends secured firmly together by means of a wire, as 9, clamped about the same, passed through a button 10, and provided with laterally-projecting ends for securely retaining said button in vcontact with said loop. The button 10 is provided with any suitable number of apertures, as 1l, for receiving securing means. The tab 12 in the said Fig. 4 is preferably composed of two strands cords formed into a double loop and twisted together to produce a single aperture for inclosing a button. The tab 12 preferably has its loop ends secured together by a plurality of the clamping-sleeves 6; but of course any suitable number may be employed. The loop 13 is formed in every respect similar to loop 7, except that a plurality of the clampingsleeves are employed for securing the ends of the loop together. In the said Fig. 4 the tab 14 is similar to tab-12, except that one of its loops, as 15, is approximately double the length of the other loop, as 16, whereby the loop 16 may be caused to engage a button, in the manner above described, for retaining the tab of the garment supported close to the trousers, or the loop 15 may be caused to engage said button for permitting a slight play. The tab 17 is similar to tab 7, except that instead of the sleeve 6 a clamping-ring, as 1S, is employed, which comprises simply an eye of suitable material bent about and clamped upon the ends of the cord forming the tab 17, whereby the central portion of the ring or eye is left open and the said cord exposed therethrough for facilitating the reception of securingmeans. Anynumberofsecuring-aper' tures, as 18, may be formed in ring 18. The tab 19 is formed similarly to tab 17, except that instead of an eye or ring an inclosing clamping-disk, as 20, is bent about and snugly holds the ends ofthe material forming the tab. The

which when the disk is bent into clamping position is in the form of a circumferential groove about the clamped ends of the tab and is designed to have a retaining cord or thread placed within the same and passed through the trousers or the lining thereof, to which the tab is applied.

In Fig. 5 I have illustrated in detail the clamping-sleeve 6, which sleeve is preferably composed of a collar of suitable material provided .with end depressions, as 22 22, whereby themwalls of the collar on the opposite sides thereof are pressed toward each other, and the material passed through the collar is clamped and held in place.

of IleXible It will of course be readily apparent that any suitable number of my improved tabs may be applied to a pair of trousers in any desired position and with the preferred relation to each other, there of course being employed a button for each of the tabs.

In Fig. 7 I have shown a tab, as 7', similar to tab or loop 7, but didering therefrom in that it is provided with a collar, as 23, slidably mounted upon andinclosing a cord, forming cord 7', whereby movement of the collar longitudinally of the tab toward its outer end is designed to tightlyclamp the article about which the cord is passed.

Fig. 8 shows a tab similar to tab 7, but differing in the form of its clamping-sleeve, which in this instance is a U-shaped piece of material, as 24, each arm of the U inclosing one of the ends of the cord forming the tab, the ends of said arms preferably approaching each other for leaving a central aperture 25, designed to have securing means passed therethrough.

Of course it will be understood that when mention is made throughout the specification and claims of a button I do not mean thereby necessarilythe common form of disks provided with securing means; but I refer to any desired form of supporting attachment, of course including, among others, the common form of buttons, as Well as hooks and the like, it being apparent that my improved tab may engage any form of attaching means without departing from the spirit of the invention. p

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a garment having a button secured to the inside of the waistband thereof, of a completely-formed tab-loop secured tothe inside of said garment and spaced from said button a distance approximately equal its length, said loop being adapted to be passed about a loop of a garment to be supported and then about said button, substantially as described.

2. In a device of the class described, the combination with a garment having a button secured thereto, of a garment-supportingloop secured to said garment and designed to engage said button, said loop being made up of a strip of suitable material having its ends clamped together by means of a Wire, and a button retained by said wire, substantially as described.
