DISPLAY-RACK.
SFEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 715,394, dated December 9, 1902. Application filed May 29, 1902. $erial No. 309,498. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. KRAGLE, a citizen of the United States, residin g at Olearfield, in the county of Olearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in display stands or racks for supporting wallpaper and other kinds of goods which are to be displayed for inspection or sale.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple of construction, convenient of operation, and adapted to firmly clamp the article to be displayed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a display stand or rack embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is an end elevation, and Fig. 4: is a top plan view showing the tripod head or socket.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents a tripod or other suitable form of support formed or provided at its upper end with a head or receiving-socket 2, in which is journaled a spindle 3, having a head 4 to rest upon said socket. Carried by the spindle is a display frame or rack 5, comprising an open frame consisting of top and bottom bars 6 and 7 and spaced end pieces 8, the said spaced end pieces forming slots to receive the ends of a vertically-movable clamping-bar 9, which is guided by said slots to move toward and from the upper bar 6. The rack 5 is rotatably mounted upon the tripod or support through the medium of the spindle 3, and therefore may be adjusted in a circular path to bring the goods into position for display at any point within the path of travel of said rack.
The clamping-bar 9 is adjusted toward and from the bar 6 to clamp or release the goods by means of a cam 10, pivotally mounted upon the frame, which cam is provided with an opdirection causes the bar 9 to be raised and when thrown in the reverse direction causes the said bar to be lowered.
The goods to be supported and displayed are clamped between the bars 6 and 9. In securing the ends of the strips or rolls of wallpaper or other goods to the rotating rack or frame it is difficult to hold the end of the strip in position to be clamped while at the same time actuating the lever 11, and in order to avoid this difficulty I provide the bar 9 with outwardly and upwardly' projecting pins 12 with which the end of the strip is engaged to hold said strip in position, while the iever 11 is operated to move the cam to raise the bar 9, and thereby clamp the said end of the strip against the bar 6. The pins 12 may also be used as supports for displaying window-shades and other articles.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, mode of operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood, and it will be seen that a displayrack is provided which is simple of construction, easily operated, and adapted to firmly and securely hold or clamp the article or goods to be displayed.
Changes in the form, proportion, and'minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a display-rack, the combination with a support, of arack rotatably mounted thereon and comprising an open frame formed of top and bottom bars and end pieces, the latter being spaced to provide guideways, a bar slidably mountedin said gnideways and movable toward and from said upper bar of the frame, and a cam mounted upon the lower bar of the frame and acting upon said clamping-bar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' JOHN L. KRAGLE.
