UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE.
OSWALD LOBEL, OF ZITTAU, GERMANY.
HOT-WATER H EATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 714,588, dated November 25, 1902.
Application filed February 1, 1902. Serial No. 92,204. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSWALD LoBEL, a subj ect of the King of Saxony, residing at Innere Weberstrasse, Zittau, in the Kingdom of Saxony and Empire of Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hot-Water Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hot-water heaters, and has for its object to provide a water-heating apparatus in a furnace. This apparatus consists, substantially, of one or two water-receptacles made of such a shape as to form the top and rear Wall of the furnace.
In the accompanying drawings I have represented by way of example two construcin a furnace.
tional forms of my said invention.
Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section, Fig. 2 a vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 a plan, showing one constructional form of the water-heating apparatus arranged Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal section showing the other constructional form of the apparatus provided in a furnace.
The water-receptacle comprises a horizontal compartment Ct, which covers the furnace A, and a vertical compartment 19, which forms the rear wall of such furnace. Both compartments a and b are furnished with a plurality of openings 0 of suitable width, which afford a passage for the products of combustion and the lateralwalls of which increase the heating-surface.
The tubes 01 and e form the water inlet and outlet.
In the constructional examples I have provided two tubular extensions g, serving to carry the grate f and terminating in the front wall of the rear compartment 1) of the waterserve to increase theheating-s'urface and to accelerate the circulation of the water.
The upper compartment or of the water-receptacle has in front cleaning-tubes Z, which pass through the front wall of the furnace and are adapted to be closed by screw-covers m.
The apparatus may be advantageously used for hot-water heating systems, for baths, and for heating water for domestic purposes generally.
In the constructional form represented in Fig.4 a second water-receptacle is provided, which has two compartments 'n, and 0, arranged above and behind the compartments a and b of the water-receptacle. The compartments n and o are connected with each other either directly, as shown at the rear above, or by short tubes 19, as shown below. The compartments 0. and n have a large central opening, between the two walls q and r of which the water passes over and which serves asa passage for the coal contained in the filling shaft or magazine 8. It is expedient to widen the opening toward the fillingshaft. By the addition of the compartments n and o the heating-surface and the capacity of the water-receptacle are considerably increased. The products of combustion circulate almost entirely around the compartments a and b.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination, of a water-receptacle consisting of a horizontal upper compartment, a vertical rear compartment, a grate, and tubular extensions projecting laterally forward from the lower part of said rear compartment and supporting said grate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, of a water-receptacle consisting of a horizontal upper compartment, a vertical rear compartment, tubular extensions projecting laterally forward from the lower part of said rear compartment, and pipes connecting the tubular extensions with the horizontal upper compartment, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, of two water-receptacles consisting each of a horizontal upper compartment and a vertical rear compartment, one receptacle being arranged above and behind the other, and connected by pipes, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I haved signed my name to this specification in the presence 0 two subscribing witnesses.
OSWALD LoBEL.
