FRCESS F BULDING CONCRETE AND HSNRY STRUCTURES.
{Application filed Apr. 10, 1902.)
me rimes.) z'sheets-sheef 2.
l ITT? Liu intended to strenft the centering in position, end for this reason the short bers nrc anchored in the :thutments es they are formed and the bers Si secured thereto :After the centering iein piece, Yifl'ien these bers are in position, the mortar and concreto is applied to the paper and is carefnily rammed to moire if. compnet enti to force it cioeeiy about the bers. The enter surface is then inished in the nsnei manner and the structn re permitted to steun for several dztys, when the centering remove.' inasmuch the mortnr has never come into contact wi: h the legging-nire hitter ie renfiiiy removed, the peper adhering to the mortar. This can generally he removed with lit-tie trouble, howerc-r; ont if it sii'enid bedifcult to detach it can be 'left in position, it w"i shortly rot and drop away, leaving e here end smooth interiorsnrfece. In sli structures of this hind the cementjn the concrete ten-is 'to settle or gravita-G to the 'inner sitie, and when my process is not used, esi ecieliy if there should be :in excess of vater, much of il escapes through the lagging with the dripping Witter. The peper, however, being impervious to Water heide it and the @erneut in piace nntii the concrete sets, and ne the cement is the part of the concrete that gives it its cohesivcness its presence at the inner surface renders the .same very herd.
in the masonry nrch shown in ifigr and the bers 3 and 9 are emitted for coignienoe of illustration; but the foundation or abut-- nienie,-the centering, inciniing the ingging, and the paper S .sii empio Ci the seme was described in connection with tue other nrch. in order to secure the same i and smooth interior surface, mortar is n the paper in smeli Q inntitien nexthc bricks last leid, and the new brick is then pushed into piace,jwiiici1 forces the morini' up hetween the bricks, so that the sin 'iro conipleteiy filled. This :nertnr hns. mi been npp'liejnst before the brick is iei nf! before it hns time to set, so that the cor-t oetwcen the bricks and, peper sind the mortar between the bricks is one continuons :md homogenoous hor'ly. This proc con-tinnenL until the entire con ont the pnpor is complete, after 'which the onset courses :rre applied in the nenni wey. As in the former cese, the nre-h is perniiited to stand until the mortar sets, when the centering is removed :imi the panel'stripped. oli', ne l. 'aforo described.
einiin'ients coriinining bern inn); be of any :intimi-.venir i@ fori.
piled 'tethe concrete enti iegging j Weste of the cement any other snitnbie thin end iiexibie materiel may no useil instead. The term mortar as used in the claims is intended to cover lime mortar, cement mortar, concrete, and all other forms of cementing material. The term bnr is intended to include all forms of plain, corrugated, or other shaped bars, .fmgles, icc., or nii forms of built-up sections 0f bers held together by means of rivets, bolts, or otherwise.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim es new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The process of building arch structures which consists in constructing the abutments or foundations with'metnilic here embedded therein end projecting above the upper surface thereof, attaching transverse bars to the' ends of the said projecting bars, and orming the upper part of the arch about the seid bnrs.
The proceso; of building arch-structures which consists i constructing the abutments or Eonndsttion with nietnliic bars embedded therein and extending above the springing iine, providing suitable centering for the npper part o the arch, attaching transverse here to the projecting ends of the aforesaid bers, and forming the said upper port of the arch about the centering and about the transverse bers,
3. The process of building arch structures which consists in constructing thc nbutments or fonndntionn with metallic ours embedded therein and projecting above the upper Surface thereof, providing suitable centeringfor the oppor port of the arch, attaching transverse onreto they projecting ends of the aforeenid bers, lforming tho said upper part of the nroii nnout the centering with :i layer of thin iiexi'oic motorini separating the srch and cent sing, sai arch embedding the transverse bers end having :t loyer of mortar next to the iexible motorie permitting the mortar to harden, emi then removing the centering.
i. The process of bniltiingareh structures which cinisists in constructing the obutments cr'founiiniions with mctnllic bern embedded therein nml projecting,|` above the' upper snrince, providing suitable centering for the nppor part. of the nroh, ttnching transverse 1e projecting omis of the. aforesaid ing the upperpm'tof the arch about the centering with it lnycrof paper separating the srch nud centering, snit! :trch embed- ,.iing the transverse bars :ind having a layer ci mortar next the peper, permitting the mornr to harden, and then removing the centeriixgi'.
o. 'jiieprocene of boildingnrch structures which consists in. cfmstrncting the nbntments with :netnliic bers embedded therein :mii I jecting above the springing lino, provid! ig :initztiiie centering for the up IIO 712.841; i f f3*v 1- ing with a layer f paper that is rendered imnvervions to water, attaching transverse bars to the projectingr ends of the aforesaid bars,
6. The process of building` arch structures which consists in constructing the abutments or foundation with metallic bars 'embedded therein and projecting abovethe springing line, providing suitable-'centering for the npper part of the arch, covering the said centering with a layer of paper, coating said paper with parain, attaching transverse 'bars to Y the projecting ends of the aforesaid bars, forin tering and embedding the transverse' bars with a layer jef mortar next the paper, pering the upper part of Vthe arch about the cenL mitting the mortar to harden, removing the centering, and then stripping oif -the paper.
In ltestimony whereof I Bmx mysignatnre in the presence of two witnesses.' g l WALTER C. PARMLEY.
