PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB C. BURKHOLDER, OE HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
oi'eAR- CASE.
,SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,647, dated November 4,1902.
Application filed April 16, 1902.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, JACOB C. BURKHOLDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Cigar-Cases and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cigar-cases; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
1n the drawings, Figure l is a front view showing the cigar-case partially open. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the cigarcase.
A is the outer part of the case, which is open at one end.
B is the inner part of the case or cigar-receptacle, which is open on one side and which is slidable longitudinally in the outer part A.
G is the receptacle or box for matches, arranged at one end of the cigar-receptacle B. The match-boxG is provided with a hinged lid D, the hinge cl being preferably formed of flexible material. The lid D is hinged to the partition 6 between the two receptacles, so that it is closed by contact with the edge of Serial Ito-103,191. (No model.)
the outer case A, when the receptacle D is pushed in. The lid D forms a slight lateral projection at the end of the inner case, and when the inner case is pushed in it causes the outer end to fit more tightly, so that the cigarreceptacle does not slip out accidentally or if inverted. When the lid D has been slid out clear of the outer case A, however, the remainder of the inner case B slides very freely in the outer case. The outer case is preferably made of flexible material, so that it will spring slightly. a
What I claim is In a cigar-case, the combination, with an outer case open at one end, of a cigar-receptacle slidable in the said outer case and provided with a partition near one end thereby forming a box for matches, and a laterallyprojecting lid for the said match-box hinged to the said partition and causing the outer end portion of the said inner case to fit more tightly in the said outer case than the re mainder of the said inner case, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB G. BURKHOLDER. Witnesses:
CALVIN M. KIBLER, CHARLES C. SOHRIVER.
