SANITARY TOILET-SHEET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 711,981, dated October 28, 1902. Application led March 15. 1902. Serial No. 98,280. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD F. LANKENAU, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county of New York, and

State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet- Sheets, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which 1o similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to sanitary toiletsheets, the object thereof being to provide an improved article o f manufacture of this character comprising an integral sheet which embodies a plurality of detachable sheets forA ordinary toilet purposes and a protective covering for seats and which has an aperture adapted for engagement with a controlling or 2o feeding means to assist in the operation of vending the sheet by coin-controlled or other apparatus. Y

The invention will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the annexed claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of one of my improved sheets; Fig. 2, a similar view, drawn on a reduced scale, of

3o two of the sheets connected together; and Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing a number of the sheets arranged to form a roll.

In the practice of my invention the sheet is composed of paper or analogous material, and

each complete sheet embodies a sheet A, which is of liberal proportion, preferably of rectangular contour, and a plurality of smaller sheets A', which are separable from the sheet A, but formed integral therewith.

4o These sheets A are also preferably of rectangular contour, and I may employ any desirable number of them. They are preferably separated from each other and from the sheet A by means of the longitudinally-extended incisions a and transverse incisions ct,located at their contiguous edges and which embody the major parts of said edges, the uncut parts l acting to hold the several sheets of the device in normal integral connection. The

5o sheet in its normal shape is provided at one edge with a continuous surface part A2, which is not pierced by any of the incisions. This edge part is adapted for engagement with feeding and controlling mechanism for vending the paper, and each sheet is provided at any desirable location within the boundaries of this said edge part with au aperture A3.

Located upon a horizontal central line of each sheet A is an approximately oval-shaped iiap B, which is separa-ted from the sheet A 6o by means of the incisions b, normal integral connection being maintained by means of the uncut parts 2. This flap is adapted to be severed from the sheet A at the uncut parts 2 and bent over at the point 3, whereby an opening is provided for registering with the opening of the seat upon which the sheet is adapted to be used, the flap being employed as an auxiliary depending protective medium.

I prefer to employ a number of the sheets, 7o each embodying a part A and a plurality of parts A', connected together and formed into a roll, as shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings; but it is obvious that under the scope of my invention I may employ a series of superposed separable sheets, vif desirable.

As a means for detachably connecting the several parts of the sheet I may employ incisions and uncut parts, as shown by Figs. l and 3, or I may use simple rows of perfora- 8o tions, as illustrated by Fig. 2; but in each case a plain unpunctured edge part A2 is provided along one longitudinal edge of the sheet. y

In the operation and use of the invention the Hap B is severed at its parts 2 and bent over on a line with the point 3. The sheet A is then placed over the seat, with the sheets A extended in a forward direction and the iiap B depending downwardly through the 9o seat-opening at the frontv part thereof, thus providing an efficient sanitaryprotective covering for the seat and a plurality of readilydetachable sheets for toilet use.

I do not confine myself to any specific material for forming the sheets, and I reserve the right of using medicated material, if desired, and also the sheets may contain numbers arranged consecutively, as shown at fr,

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A sanitary toilet-sheet for covering seats to supply a clean surface therefor, comprising a sheet having an approximately centrallylocated opening for registering with a seatopening and an aperture for purposes of feed and control, substantially as shown and described.

2. A sanitary toilet-sheet, embodying a part for covering a seat-surface, and Which has an opening for registering with a seat-opening and an aperture for purposes of feed and control, and a detachable part for toilet purposes, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a sanitary sheet,the coinbination,with a part adapted for a seat-covering and having a partially-detached flap and an aperture for purposes of feed and control, of a plurality of integrally-connected detachable parts for toilet purposes, substantially as shown and described.

4. Asa new article of manufacture, a toiletsheet embodying in integral, but detachable connection by means of partially-severed adjacent edge parts: a seat-covering having an approximately central opening and an aperture for purposes of feed and control and a plurality of detachable sheets, the sheet having a continuous unpunctured surface along one of its longitudinal edges, the said aperture being Within the area of this unpunctured part, substantially as shown and described.

5. In a sanitary toilet article the combination of a plurality of sheets arranged in lon- `gitudinal series and in normal, but detachable connection with each other by means of partially-severed adjacent edge parts, each sheet embodying a part adapted for a seatcovering and having a partially-detached flap and an approximately central opening for registeringwith a seat-aperture, and an aperture, for feed and control, and a plurality of detachable parts, the series, when connected, having a continuous unpunctured surface part along one of its longitudinal edges, the said apertures being located Within the area of this edge part in alinement with each other, substantially as shown and described.

G. In a sanitary toilet article, the combination of a plurality of medicated sheets consecutively numbered and arranged in longitudinal series and in normal, but detachable connection With each other by means of partially-severed adjacent edge parts, each sheet embodying a part having an approximately central opening, for registering with a seataperture, and an aperture for feed and control, and a plurality of detachable parts, the series, when connected, having a continuous unpunctured surface part along one of its longitudinal edges, the said apertures for feed and control being located Within the area of this edge part in alinement with each other, substantially as shown and described.
