CORPSE-COOLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 710,745, dated October '7, 1902.
Application filed February 20, 1902. Serial No. 94,900. (No model.)
To all whom, it 'nuty concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. BOUOHER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Barton, in the county of Allegany and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corpse- Coolers, of which the following is a specifica- Y tion, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in corpse-coolers, and relates more particularly to a refrigerating device for undertakers use for the preserving of dead bodies by means of a refrigerating or cooling agent.
The present invention has for its object to provide a device of the above-described character that will be extremely simple in construction, strong, durable, comparatively in expensive to manufacture, and highly efficient in its use.
A still further object of the invention to provide a waterproof covering in combination with a mask in order to retain the lifelike features of the corpse.
The invention still further contemplates to provide a covering of waterproof material having openings formed therein in order that the space between the corpse and the inner lining may be easily accessible for the pur-' pose of placing ice therein and also provide means for closing said openings.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combina tion and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and specifically pointed out.

formed of waterproof material, said bag having formed therein openings 4 and 5. These openings may be closed in any suitable manner, but are preferably secured by means of cords 6 and 7. The drain-pipe 8 may be attaehed to any convenient place at the bottom of the bag in order to allow the drippings caused by the melting of the ice to be carried off from the bag. The ice or cooling agent is represented by the reference-numeral 9 and is placed between the inner side of the bag and the corpse. The mask 10 is formed of any suitable material and carries a bearing 11, through which extends a set-screw 12, carrying on its opposite end a head it. The said head 1% is adapted to bear against the chin of the corpse in order to retain the lower .jaw and mouth-in proper position.
The reference-numeral 15 represents a headrest or pillow, which is likewise constructed of waterproof material, upon which the head and mask rest.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved device will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
it will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what i claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A corpse-cooler comprising a bag of wa terproof material having parallel sides and rounded ends, said bag having its upper side provided with two elongated spaced-apart slits, one of said slits being arranged adjacent the forward end of the bag, an outlet-tube arranged adjacent the lower end of the bag, and cords attached to the bag adjacent the said slits for closing the same, substantially as described.
