have invented certain new and useful Im` provements in Magazine Toy Guns, of which the following is a specification. 4
This invention relates to magazine toy guns; and it has for its object to provide an improved device of thisclass whichwill be pleasing and instructive in use and' will effectually simulate in operation the operation of standard guns of this type.
This invention hasl for its further object to provide an improved device of the class described which will be relatively simple in construction and not liable to get outof order.

In the preferred form of construction the cylinder 3 consists of two cylindrical members 6 and '7, in which the projectiles 8, which may consist of shot, slugs, or other suitable' bodies, and the cartridge or other ring media 9 are carried. The cylinders -6 and 7 are provided each with an annular series of bores 9, the bores of `which Vseries are arranged in registration in thetwo cylinders, the arrangement of parts being such that upon joint revolution of the two members 6 and 7 of the cylinder one of the bores of the member 6 and one of the bores of the member 7 will be si.

which lits into a slot 11, formed in the other 4.member of the cylinder, so as to provide for joint revolution of the members 6 and 7 when one of said members is positively revolved by the operating means 4. The barrel l may be supported by a gun carriage or base 12, which may consist of two outwardly-bowed legs or supports 13, which connect at their tops, as at 14, with the barrel 1 and the cylinder-shell 15 at one side of the same and are connected by a web 13?. The two members 6 and 7 of the cylinder 3 are carried rotatably in the cylindrical shell 15, 'the continuous sides 16 of which extend vertically and the front portion 17of which connects atv its edges with the inner end of the barrel 1,.'said-fron't portion being provided with a suitable opening 17a in registration with the borer2. The hammer 5 is reciprocatingly mounted in a housing 30,'which is carriedbya brace 31, extending between vthe .supports of the gun, and said housing 30 consists of acasing 32, in which the inner end of the hammer 5 is received, said hammer 5 being spring-actuated by means of a spring 33, which is inmer and the rear end 34E of the casing 32.
The rear Y yterposed between the inner end of the ham- Y The hammer 5 is arranged to operate in the path of movement traversed by the cartridges 9 in the rear member 7 of the cylinder 3 and is operated in step with the revolution of the cylinder by means of an annular cam device 36, which is secured to the rearward surface 29 of the member 7 of the cylinder concentrically with the same and inside of the gearrack 28 and around the center of the member 7 of the cylinder. To this end the hammer 5 is provided with a laterally-projecting pin 37, which is depressed to retract or set the hammer 5 in alternation with the presentation of the several cartridges 9 in position to discharge or project the projectiles S through the bore 2,*and as each of said cartridges, with its respective projectile, comes into registration withl the bore 2 the pin 37 slips from one of the shoulders of the cam 36 and engages with the respective cartridge 9 to fire the same.
It is manifest that the entire device as above described may be mounted in any suitable manner to obtain the desiredtrajectory of the missiles dischargedy thereby, as is customary in standard guns of this type.
The operation and advantages of my improved magazine toy gun will be readily understood. rlhe shaft 23 may be revolved by means of a suitable crank 23, with which one end of said shaft is provided, and the vrevolution of said shaft serves to revolve the gears 25 and 26, and consequently to revolve jointly the two members 6 and 7 of the cylinder 3. This joint rotation of the members 6 and 7 of the cylinder brings the several registering openings of the two series of bores 9 successively into registration with the bore 2 of the barrel l, so that upon the iiring of the cartridge 9 by means of the hammer 5 the respective missile 8 will be discharged through the bore 2 of the barrel l. As the missile or projectile 8 in each of the bores 9L in the member 6 of the cylinder comes into registration with the bore 2 of the barrel l the pin 37 slips off from one of the shoulders of the circular cam 36 and by means of its spring 33 is actuated to engage operatively with the respective cartridge 9 and explode the same to discharge the respective projectile 8. The gun is therefore automatically fired by operating the crank 23 as many times as there are projectiles and cartridges in the cylinder 3, and when said projectiles and cartridges have been exhausted the hinged half 19 of the shell 15 is opened up to permit the detachment of the two members 6 and 7 of the cylinder, which members may then be again reloaded and replaced within the shell l5.
It is manifest that either the projectiles 8 or the cartridges 9 may be dispensed with in the use of the gun, according to the desired elects to be obtained, and when the cartridges are dispensed with the hammer 5 may operate by direct contact with the projectiles to discharge the same through the barrel of the gun. f
The entire device is relatively simple in construction and may be operated and reloaded very readily by children or other unskilled persons.
I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variation and modification as properly falls within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. An improved magazine toy gun, comprising the barrel, a cylindrical shell arranged at the inner end of the barrel and embodying a fixed portion and a hinged portion, a cylinder revolubly mounted in said shell and provided on its rear face with rearwardly-projecting teeth in two concentric rings, a gear meshing with said outer ring of teeth for revolving said cylinder to successively present projectiles carried thereby in position to be discharged throughthe barrel, and a spring-actuated firing-pin adapted to be operated by the inner ring of teeth.
2. An improved magazine toy gun, comprising the carriage, a barrel, a cylindrical shell embodying a iixed portion mounted on said carriage and connected with the inner end of said barrel and a hinged portion, a cylinder revolubly mounted in said shell and provided on its rear face with rearwardlyprojecting teeth in two concentric rings, a
gear carried by said carriage and meshingv with said outer ring of teeth for revolving said cylinder to successively present project iles carried thereby in position to be discharged through the barrel, and a spring-actuated iiring-pin carried by said carriage and operated by the inner ring of teeth.

An improved magazine toy gun, comprising the barrel, a cylindrical shell arranged at the inner end of the barrel and consisting of two hinged members provided with inwardly-projecting fianges,a cylinder provided on its rear face with rearwardly-projecting teeth in two concentric rings and which fits Within said cylindrical shell and is maintained in operative position by said iianges, a hammer, means for revolving said cylinder to successively present projectiles carried by said cylinder in position to be discharged through the barrel, and means for actuating said hammerin the revolution of the cylinder.
4. In an improved magazine toy gun,l a barrel, a cylindrical shell arranged at the inner IOO IIO
end of the barrel and consisting of two hinged members provided with flanges, a cylinder provided on its rear face with rearwardlyprojecting teeth in two concentric rings and which fits within said cylindrical shell and is maintained in operative position by said flanges, and means for revolving said cylinder to successively present projectiles carried thereby in position to be discharged throughl said barrel.
5. In an improved magazine toy gun, a barrel, a cylindrical shell arranged at the inner end of the barrel and consistingof two hinged members provided with anges, a cylinder provided on its rear face with rearwardly- `projecting teeth in two concentric rings and which fits within said cylindrical shell and is maintained in operative position by said IRVING T. SMITH.
