To all whont it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES LEO CRANE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Oleve]and,in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Itnprovementsin Show-Cases or Show-Fronts; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in so-called all-glass show-fronts or showcases.

The primary object of this invention is to avoid the necessity of using unusually large plates of glass in the manufacture of so-called all-glass show-fronts or show-cases without materially interfering with the all-glass effect of the show-front or show-case.

With this object in view and to the end of realizing other advantages hereinafter appearing the invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure I is a view in perspective of a portion of a showfront or show-case embodying my invention. Fig. II is a top plan in section on lines II II, Fig. I. Fig. III is a vertical section on line III III, Fig. II, looking inwardly.

Referring to the drawings, a represents the base of a show-front or show-case, and b b, 0 c, and cl designate upright glass plates assembled upon the said base. The plates 6 and b are arranged opposite each other and a suitable distance apart. The plates 0 and c constitute the front of the show-window or show-case and are arranged in line edgewise between the side plates 17 and b-that is, each plate 0 is arranged with its inner side edge opposite the inner side edge of the other plate 0 and each side'plate b overlaps the outer side edge of the adjacent front plate 0.

The two frontplates 0 and c are separated the distance required to accommodate the location between them of the thickness of another upright glass plate d, which extends from between the opposing inner side edges of the two front plates inwardly any suitable distance and forms a brace which can be used as a partition or otherwise. Both front plates 0 and c are fastened to the intervening plate 0?, preferably at suitable intervals vertically.

The fastening means for holding the plates 0 c and d together-comprises, preferably, two metal straps e and e, which are arranged at opposite sides, respectively, of the plate cl directly opposite each other. One of the straps e extends through and snugly engages a recess 5, formed in the inner side edge of one of the plates 0, and the other strap 6 extends through and snugly engages a recess 6, formed in the inner side edge of the other plate a, and of course the said recesses 5 and 6 are arranged directly opposite each other.

Each strap e is provided at the outer side of the front plate 0, through which it extends, with a member 7, which snugly overlaps the said side of the said front plate.

The two straps e and e extend a suitable distance inwardly from the inner side of the front formed by the plates 0 and c and are provided between their inner extremities and the said side of the front with registering lateral bolt-holes 8, which register with a diametrically-corresponding bolt-hole 10, formed in and extending laterally through the plate cl. A boltf extends through the said registering holes 8 and 10 and through holes 12, formed in two other metal straps h, which are arranged at the outer side of the difierent inner straps e and 6, respectively, and the said outer straps h are provided with members 13, arranged to snugly engage the inner sides of the front plates 0, and the bolt-holes 12 in the said outer straps h are elongated longitudinally of the straps to accommodate different thicknesses in the front plates.

The boltf is arranged with its head 14 hearing against the outer side of one of the outer straps 7t, and a nut g is mounted upon the shank of the bolt at the outer side of the other outer strap 77.. Obviously, therefore, a tightening up of the nut will result in securing the outer straps h in the desired adjustment. It will be observed also that the plate cl is shown projecting somewhat beyond the outer sides of the front plates 0 andbeyond the outer sides of the members 7 of the inner straps e.

What I claim is 1. In a show-case or show-front, the combi- IOC l nation, with two glass plates arranged with a side edge of each plate adjacent a side edge of the other plate, which plates are separated the distance required to accommodate the interposition between them of the thickness of another plate and are provided with oppositely arranged recesses in the aforesaid edges, of a plate interposed laterally between the said recessed edges, and means instrumental in fastening the first-mentioned plates to the intervening plate and comprising the following: two metal straps arranged at opposite sides respectively of the intervening plate and extending through the aforesaid recesses and having members overlapping the outer sides of the first-mentioned plates and comprising, also, members overlapping the inner sides of the first-mentioned plates, and means fastening the metal straps to the intermediate plate.

2. In a show-case or show-front, the combination, with two glass plates arranged with a side edge of each plate opposite a side edge of'the other plate, which plates are separated the distance required to accommodate the interposition between them of the thickness of another plate and are provided with oppositely arranged recesses in the aforesaid edges, of a plate interposed laterally between the said recessed edges, and means instrumental in fastening the first-mentioned plates to the intervening plate and comprising the following: two metal straps arranged at opposite sides, respectively, of the intervening plate and extending through the aforesaid recesses and having members overlapping the outer sides of the first-mentioned and recessed plates, other metal straps arranged at the outer sides of the first-mentioned and inner straps and having members overlapping the inner sides of the said recessed plates, a bolt extending through all of the said straps and through the intervening plate and arranged with its head at the outer side of one of the outer straps, and a nut upon the shank of the bolt at the outer side of the other outer strap, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. In ashow-case or show-front, the combination, with two glass plates arranged with a side edge of each plate adjacent a side edge of the other plate, which plates are recessed at the said edges, of a brace arranged adjacent and extending along the said edges, and means secured to the brace and instrumental in fastening the plates to the brace and comprising the following: metal straps extending through recesses of the aforesaid recessed plates and having portions overlapping the outer sides of the recessed plates, and other straps or members overlapping the inner sides of the said plates, and means fastening the metal straps to the aforesaid brace, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. In a show-case or show-front, the combination, with two glass plates arranged with a side edge of each plate adjacent a side edge of the other plate; of a brace arranged adjacent and extending along the said edge, and means secured to the brace and instrumental in fastening the plates to the brace and comprising metal straps extending between the plates, and having portions overlapping the outer sides of the plates and other members overlapping the inner sides of the said plates, and means fastening the metal straps to the aforesaid brace.
